'Agents of SHIELD' Season 7 Finale: Will we get a reference to 'Avengers: Endgame' in the series finale?
The popular Marvel television show 'Agents of SHIELD' is finally coming to an end with its two-part Season 7 finale. Seeing as it's the first Marvel Cinematic Universe show ever, the series ending is a major moment for Marvel and they're going to want to give the show a fitting farewell.
Of course, what we would like to know is whether there will be some connection between the series finale and the MCU movies that they share a universe with. 'Avengers: Endgame' , in particular, seems like a great candidate for the show to tie in to.
As the most massive crossover ever envisioned by Marvel, 'Endgame' could very well be given a connection to 'Agents of SHIELD'. At one point, the show did exist more closely to the movies and there was a tie-in to 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' in the second season of the series as well as a strong connection to 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' in Season 1.
Since then, the series has moved progressively further away from the movies, even as it explored new planets, dimensions and timelines. Now with the whole of history threatened by the Chronicoms, we can't help but wonder if the agents might get some external help.
Unfortunately, the chances of the Avengers or another major team showing up in the 'Agents of SHIELD' finale are slim. But that doesn't mean there won't be any connection whatsoever.
For all we know, the series could end with the agents returning to the present day of the movies, which is technically in 2023. If timed right, they would return to a world that's drastically different from the one they left.
Alternatively, the connection could be something as simple as a funny cameo by Ant-Man / Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) or something similar. If The CW can get Ezra Miller to do a cameo as Barry Allen / The Flash in 'Crisis on Infinite Earths', it shouldn't be too difficult for Marvel and ABC to scrape together one good cameo.
The show's distancing from the MCU is something that has been a disappointment for fans, especially for the ones who got introduced to the show because of the movies. Having at least one tie-in moment connecting the show's final chapter to 'Avengers: Endgame', possibly the greatest superhero movie ever made, would make this bittersweet goodbye a little more bearable.
'Agents of SHIELD' will air its series finale on August 12 at 9 pm ET on ABC.
