'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' is finally coming to an end with its upcoming Season 7, bringing to a close an epic run that explored the weirdest sides of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since it's inception, the TV show has slowly shifted further and further away from its big-screen cousins but the final season may still bring in an important MCU character.

In Season 7, our intrepid heroes are going to travel to the past to foil a plot by time-traveling robots seeking to conquer Earth. Also, Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) is now a robot.

A new trailer for the season was released on April 28, confirming that the story will take place in 1931. The clip shows the Chronicoms attacking some police officers in the past and reveals that to save S.H.I.E.L.D. in the present, the team will have to save the villainous organization Hydra in the past.

With its period setting, the season will also serve as a conclusion for its sister show 'Agent Carter' with Hayley Atwell and Enver Gjokaj returning as Peggy Carter and Daniel Sousa respectively. This creates an interesting possibility that could tie the show to 'Avengers: Endgame'.

As fans would recall, Captain America / Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) traveled back to the past to live out his years with the love of his life Peggy, in what has since become a pretty controversial decision. That means chances are that Steve might be around in the past or he may arrive by the end of the season.

Since time travel doesn't change the timeline, as was elaborated at length in 'Endgame', we don't know if the Agents are in the same past as the one Steve went to. Actually, when you think about it, we don't even know if their actions in the past will actually defeat the Chronicoms at all. The science of the MCU is a bit wonky at the best of times.

The important thing here is that the possibility exists for Steve to make an appearance on the show. That would be a great way to end it all, especially since Coulson was such a huge fan of Cap while he was alive and we can only assume the new robot Coulson feels the same way.

'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 7 will premiere on ABC on May 27.
