LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Animation is art and something that takes the audience into the realm of possibilities and wonder. Adult Swim's newest show 'Unicorn: Warriors Eternal' is a classic piece of animation work gifted to us by Genndy Tartakovsky, one of the most exciting storytellers in animation who’s responsible for great titles like 'Dexter’s Laboratory', 'Samurai Jack', and 'Primal'. These titles have shaped our childhood and 'Unicorn: Warriors Eternal' is here to give you a sense of comfort and deja vu.

The show brings out the themes of 'Eternals' and 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'. Tartakovsky's passion for creation and art is quite palpable through the show and makes it his best work yet. Set in an alternative version of 1890s London, 'Unicorn: Warriors Eternal' narrates a remarkable sci-fi/fantasy adventure that takes pieces from all aspects of animation influences, but with the themes of comfort, friendship, identity and family in the front seat.

Who are the Warriors?

The plot of the show is as simple as it is detailed. Tartakovsky has put his heart and soul into the creation of each character and the storyline that runs throughout the show. Set in the alternative version of London in the year 1890, the warriors gather when they are needed the most, and in this timeline, they are needed in London. The dark forces are their enemies and once they ascend to the other realm, they have to forget about their mortal existence on earth and take on the role they have been given. But, is it that easy to give up a life you've known since you arrived on the planet for something who's existence threatens you? Well, the story is about discovery, acceptance and the giving up societal ideations of one self for something that's bigger and better than mortal life.

A theme of destiny

Tartakovsky's work has always involved characters that have trouble accepting their best self and that theme has been quite innumerable and tangible in the show. A character, Melinda, was chosen to fight the dark forces and was taken in the middle of her wedding. While she is contemplating her fate and looking at a boy she loves and is about to marry, she gets confused. She is haunted by fragments of her past life that make the overwhelming task that lies ahead of her feel even more impossible. What lies ahead for Melinda is much more stronger than her past self, we'll see how she tackles the revengeful demons while accepting her fate.

'Unicorn: Warriors Eternal' is currently streaming on Adult Swim.
