KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI: A 37-year-old man onboard an Alaska Airlines flight got arrested and is now facing two federal assault charges after he harassed a woman sitting next to him. The incident took place when the man, identified as Adam David Seymour, took Alaska Airlines Flight 49 on the morning of April 5, 2023, traveling from Seattle to Anchorage and allegedly drank himself into a stupor and later, groped his seatmate’s legs.
A criminal complaint obtained by The Daily Beast states that when the man boarded the flight, he seemed “friendly at first." The complaint stated, "The victim, DS, was sitting in a middle seat, and Seymour was seated in the adjacent aisle seat. DS noticed there were three colored bottles inside the pocket attached to the back of the seat located in front of Seymour. DS described the bottles as being toiletry-type bottles approximately three ounces in size. Each bottle was a different color: pink, green, and blue." She could not see what was inside the bottle because "they were colored." Seymour then ordered two Jack-and-Cokes during the first beverage service, after which “his behavior changed.”

Told female passenger she 'looked like a lesbian'
Seymour "started slurring his words, began moving physically closer to DS rubbed her lower thigh and knee on the inner and outer areas without her consent and tried to rest his head on her shoulder." He also made multiple comments about her sexuality, including that he thought she “looked like a lesbian." "Seymour asked DS other intrusive personal questions. At first, DS did not answer Seymour. Based on his demeanor and behavior, DS was worried what Seymour would do to her if she said something that triggered him," the complaint read.
The culprit then talked about licking her “down there.” She tried leaning away from him "every time he touched her." After making the sexual comments, Seymour told her, “We’re all going to die”, gesturing with his hands in a fashion that the woman "interpreted as showing the aircraft crashing." A few minutes later, the woman “heard a sparking sound,” and turned to Seymour, who held a lighter and was smoking a cigarette, according to the complaint. She yelled at him that smoking wasn’t allowed aboard the aircraft, to which he responded, “I’m a bad person.”
The woman kept trying to get the attention of a flight crew member but was unsuccessful. She then wrote a message on her phone asking for help and slid her phone between the seats in front of her through the seats to show the message to "CA, who was seated directly in front of her. CA and the person sitting next to her, KB, were both off-duty police officers. KB went and got a flight attendant after reading the message, and DS was moved to another seat. CA stated that after DS was moved to another seat, Seymour became upset with RN, the passenger sitting in the window seat, and stated he wanted to fight him."
'Alarmed for presence of cocaine'
He then asked one of the flight attendants to bring him a beer, which she declined “due to his apparent impairment.” The flight attendant, who is identified in the complaint as BH, said she “witnessed Seymour drinking something and asked him what it was, to which Seymour replied, "Hand sanitizer.”
The complaint mentioned, “BH stated the other passengers told her Seymour was threatening to kill people and saying that they were all going to die, and the plane was going to crash." The off-duty police officers stayed with Seymour until the plane landed and Airport Police arrived. Police said Seymour refused to take a breathalyzer test, but that a task force officer at Ted Stevens International said Seymour’s hands were swabbed with an ion scanner, which “alarmed for the presence of cocaine.”
Commenting on the incident, an Alaska Airlines spokesperson said, as per The Daily Beast, that local authorities “removed” Seymour from the flight. However, further added, “We cannot comment on our decisions to ban particular guests, but we do have policies in place that can prevent future travel."
