'Absentia' Season 3 centers on Emily Byrne's journey towards finding her ex-husband Nick Durand who gets kidnapped while investigating an organ trafficking ring in Boston. During this investigation, Emily goes through a transformation of her own that pushes her to leave her son in the protection of her father, away from everyone and everything they knew as she heads off to Europe to find out who or what Jericho means.

Emily is surrounded by enemies and at one point, the hunches that she has regarding a certain member of the FBI turns out to be true that is the beginning of the end of Emily's life as we know it. The trauma that she still carries within, the flashbacks and the conflict that she experiences every time she remembers the time that she was held as a prisoner, appear less and less these days, and it is not because it has disappeared completely but it is more a sign of Emily moving on with her life.

In episode 10, Emily manages to find Nick and the two of them successfully rescue refugees who were captured and held as prisoners by Jericho. She also figures out that the entire operation doesn't end with Jericho at the border of Austria but goes much deeper and that is what she is dead set on tracking -- who the people behind Meridian are and who is the FBI mole that has been leaking information regarding all the operations that have been put in motion against Meridian.

Emily had always believed that Julianne was not to be trusted and just as expected, it turned out that it was indeed Julianne who had leaked information to Meridian and was also on the payroll of Jericho and everyone involved in the refugee imprisonment. She was also the reason behind Nick being kidnapped and Emily being attacked as well and the last episode of the season brings all of this together.

Emily orchestrates a fake gas explosion at her home in which Nick and Flynn's deaths are set up. She does this to ensure her family's safety, but this also brings Emily full circle when it comes to meeting her family as well. In the past seasons, each member of her family has suffered in horrendous ways and now, with Nick deciding to leave the FBI, her son also gets a chance at leading a life that will not be ridden with dangers as a result of his parents' profession.

Also, Emily decides to stay behind and bring Meridian to justice, which she manages to do with the help of Cal Isaac and Crown, both of whom also help her find proof about Julianne working for Meridian as well. When Emily wraps up the case against Meridian, she continues to work for the FBI and her relationship with Cal Isaac has changed forever. They are not only partners anymore, and the end of the episode sees Emily meet Cal Isaac to set up a date for later.

As she closes all the loose ends that remain, she opens up the possibility of a fresh new start within the world of 'Absentia'. Will there be a new season? There has been no official confirmation regarding the same. However, in case the show does get renewed, then the storyline will be a new start for Emily and the other characters in the show.

'Absentia' Season 3 premiered on July 17 and all the new episodes can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
