'A Quiet Place Part II': Release date, plot, cast, trailers and everything else about the sci-fi horror sequel
2018 witnessed one of the most well-made sci-fi horrors in the form of ‘A Quiet Place’. Written and directed by John Krasinski who also was the film’s male lead, the movie revolved around a family struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by blind extraterrestrial creatures with an acute sense of hearing.
For those who enjoyed the film, 2020 will be a treat. A sequel to the movie is coming.
Release date:
‘A Quiet Place Part II’ opens in theaters across the U.S. March 20.
Plot:
The sequel takes off right from where the first film ended -- following the death of Lee Abbot (John Krasinski), the surviving members of the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. As per IMDb, forced to venture into the unknown, they realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path. The film will also feature flashbacks that tell the story of how they came to be in their present situation.
Cast:
The original cast members will reprise their roles. Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe will continue to play the Abbot family. It is so far unclear if Krasinski will make a comeback, if only in flashbacks as Lee Abbot -- Lee died at the end of the first movie.
The cast of ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ will also feature Djimon Hounsou and Cillian Murphy as other survivors. Neither actor’s characters have been named in the trailer.
Emily Blunt
The 36-year-old British-American actress is best known for her roles in films like ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’, ‘The Adjustment Bureau’, ‘Looper’ and ‘Edge of Tomorrow’.
Cillian Murphy
The 43-year-old Irish thespian has given several critically-acclaimed and globally-popular performances. His performance as Scarecrow in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Batman Begins’ has been highly praised. Murphy is also known for his roles in films such as ‘28 Days Later’, ‘Cold Mountain’, ‘Intermission’, ‘Red Eye’, and ‘Breakfast on Pluto’.
Djimon Hounsou
The 55-year-old Beninese-American actor is best-known for his roles in films like ‘Amistad’, ‘Gladiator’, ‘In America’ and ‘Blood Diamond’. He’s also received global fame for his role as Korath the Pursuer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Captain Marvel’.
Trailer:
The official trailer for the film begins with a flashback to “Day 1”, the day when the supposed extraterrestrial invasion took place. We see Evelyn Abbott (Emily Blunt) driving with her kids in what looks like a normal street. Out of nowhere, the aliens arrive and everything suddenly turns into chaos.
The trailer then jumps ahead to the immediate aftermath of the first movie. Blunt and her children Regan (Millicent Simmonds), Marcus (Noah Jupe) and the newborn can be seen moving away from the soundproofed path that marked the border of their territory.
Outside their once-safe-space, they encounter fresh horrors. Not just the sound-sensitive aliens, but more people. So far, the Abbot family had been largely cut off from contact with other humans since the alien invasion began.
But now, they encounter other fellow survivors, including characters played by Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou. When Blunt expresses her desire to save other possible survivors, Murphy says, “The people that are left, are not the kind of people worth saving.”
A second minute-long teaser for the film that dropped on Monday, February 24, doesn’t add much to what we’ve already seen with just one exception. We get a longer look at the new character played by Cillian Murphy. In addition to that, there are plenty of chase sequences and shots of Evelyn blasting the aliens with a shotgun. On the whole, this teaser does what it is meant to do: tease viewers with a fantastic sequel to one of 2018's best sci-fi films.
