'A Piece of Your Mind' finale proves Jung Hae-in and Chae Soo-bin's show is a wholesome portrayal of grief
Kang In-wook is grieving but that doesn't give him the right to take his anger and frustration out on people who have tried to help him. This is exactly what he did to Seo-woo (Chae Soo-bin) when he told her that no one could come between Ha Won (Jung Hae-in) and Ji Soo. The last letter that Ji Soo had sent to Ha Won's grandmother answers all of In-wook's questions and also shows her sincerity about the relationship. Ha Won, who is extremely angry with In-wook for treating Seo-woo badly, ends up being the one to help In-wook finally understand his wife's thoughts and what she really felt about In-wook. The one to have saved In-wook from beating himself up over Ji Soo's death is ironically Ha Won, and he does so only for Ji Soo.
Seo-woo who sees Ha Won hand Ji Soo's last letter to In-wook tries to comfort him. She even succeeds in doing so, but once she reaches her homestay she realizes that she is sad. While feeling sad, she also ends up drinking alcohol, which is something Seo-woo has never been able to handle. She ends up sobbing her heart out about how sad she is and regretting that she is sad in the first place. It is hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time.
The next morning she realizes that Ji Soo's device was switched on and Ji Soo makes a request of her. She wants to hear her husband's voice, his music one last time because the piece of consciousness in the device has realized that she is dead. So, despite how much Seo-woo hates In-wook, she ends up granting Ji Soo's wish and takes the device to the studio. That's also when she realizes that Ji Soo's point of reaction was not really Ha Won, but In-wook. She also tells In-wook about Ji Soo listening in on them and that's when In-wook also reveals how much he truly loved Ji Soo.
After this, Ji Soo makes one last request to Seo-woo. She wants the device to be destroyed and so she says "Get rid of me." While Seo-woo says yes to it, she feels confused and guilty for having to do so and she is unable to confide in Ha Won because this will definitely make him feel sad. So instead, she decides to keep it to herself and tries to do what is right for everyone else. Seo-woo also understands how In-wook had felt when Ji Soo had chosen to think of Ha Won before him because now she feels as if she is stuck between Ji Soo and Ha Won and causing her excruciating pain.
So In-wook tells her that she should take a break and leave it behind for a bit to figure out if she is really stuck in between them or if they are standing by her side. He seems to have learned something important from the letter that Ji Soo had written last before her death. Seo-woo takes this advice and that's how she ends up asking Ha Won to take a break. She says she needs a break, a very short break from all of this to ensure that the sight of Ha Won wouldn't make her sad. After seeing her in so much pain, Ha Won agrees but he tells her that he will be waiting for her and so she has to call him as soon as she is ready. That's how Ha Won ends up experiencing another heartbreak in his life and how he will move past this one is something we can only guess.
The episode also delves deep into everyone's point of reaction and we understand that to bring out the consciousness of a person alive, one must think of the thing that comforts the person in question. Seo-woo's point of reaction is Before Dawn. During the break that Seo-woo and Ha Won are on, Ha Won continues to work on the device, and Seo-woo continues to work in the studio. She also tries to get rid of Ji Soo during this time. However, she comes to realize that she doesn't have to accept Ji Soo's request to be destroyed especially if that is going to affect Seo-woo's mental health. So Seo-woo decides to hide the device at a place where no one can find her.
Ha Won, on the other hand, finally returns to Oslo, to the house where his mother played the piano. The house where Ha Won experienced a huge part of his love for Ji Soo as well. This time though, he plays the song that Seo-woo had played for him in the house as he tries to find comfort.
Finally, Seo-woo also finds the courage to call Ha Won. She also returns to the house that the two of them stayed together and waits for Ha Won's return from Oslo.
'A Piece of Your Mind' with its finale comes full circle in portraying grief and the cycle of grieving the loss of someone that you love. Sometimes, you get lucky like Ha Won and Seo-woo did and you find love in the process as well.
