BROOKLYN, NYC: A clerk at an adult video store in Brooklyn was hit on the head with a baseball bat after attempting to stop a man from stealing lingerie on Sunday morning, August, 28, leaving police officers with scrapes and bruises as they tried to catch the violent thief.

Police said the robber was stealing lingerie from Video City around 9:30 am at 956 Third Avenue in Sunset Park. The thief beat the store clerk with a baseball bat and got into a fight with a police officer who tried to arrest him and fled the scene. The store clerk and a police officer suffered minor injuries, a police spokesperson said. The suspect then fled the scene.

The thief was caught stealing as the store owner watched him through the CCTV footage. Upon confrontation, the man tried to run away and shortly after he attacked the owner of the store with a baseball bat on his head. “The guy took the lingerie and then said he wanted to see the DVDs,” said Aruna Bevapriyi, 55, whose cousin has owned and run the store for about 20 years. “Then he put the lingerie and DVDs in a bag and tried running away.” The thief then hit the clerk with the bat and fought with cops who tried to arrest him, police said.

Both the store owner and cops suffered minor injuries, and the thief fled the scene. Bevapriyi said his cousin was left with “damage” and cuts near his right cheek and two bumps on the head and was taken to a hospital to get checked out. Police further collected the surveillance footage. Bevapriyi said, "he hoped it would help arrest the suspect." The clerk at the nearby Sunset Video said “robberies happen all the time.” "It’s very hard to control people,” the clerk added. “People are crazy. New York is crazy and the police don’t get here on time.”
