DAEJEON, SOUTH KOREA: The latest K-drama, 'A Killer Paradox', delivers a thrilling plot centered around a college student who accidentally kills a stranger. Starring Choi Woo-shik and Son Suk-ku, the eight-episodic series premiered on Netflix on Friday, February 9, 2024.
The pilot episode introduces us to Lee Tang (Choi Woo-shik), skillfully balancing the challenges of college and a part-time job at a convenience store.
Lee Tang kills a stranger on the street
Lee Tang, while returning from his shift, encounters one of his drunk customers lying unconscious on the street. Concerned for the individual's well-being, Tang approached a friend for assistance. Unfortunately, the man, in his intoxicated state, became agitated and aggressive, demanding Tang to leave him undisturbed.
Amid the assault, Tang's memories of past bullying flood his mind. He grabs a hammer from his bag and smashes it on the man's head who collapses, succumbs, and dies.
Lee Tang learns about the history of his victim
Detective Jang Nan-gam and his team conclude that the two drunk acquaintances killed each other during a heated argument. It is revealed that Lee Gwang-hun likely attacked Kim Myeong-jin for having an extra-marital affair with Lee's wife. The physical altercation ultimately led to the death of both individuals.
However, upon receiving the DNA reports, the cops revealed that Kim's real name was Yeo Bu-il, a serial killer, who had been missing after killing a family in 2009. He was also accused of rape and murder of a group of college students.
Lee Tang finds solace and courage with this revelation, alleviating the mental burden of fear and guilt that haunted him for killing an 'innocent' man.
