Jihoon Lee and Deavan Clegg are all set to get married in an official Korean wedding. However, the pair has a lot to prepare for ahead of this ceremony. To celebrate this occasion, Devan's parents came to Korea. In the latest episode (November 22), Jihoon decided to surprise them with a Korean tradition called Hahm ahead of the wedding.
He decided to bring in two of his friends who were seen wearing a squid mask. Even though it surprised Deavan's parents, they were excited to be part of a tradition that was so close to them. Deavan's mother thought it was a nice gesture to bring two families together through tradition. Jihoon explained that the squid was used to ward off any evil that might be there. He also offered them a Hahm box that contained all the things they would need for the wedding. Deavan's parents happily accepted the box and admitted they were looking forward to the wedding.
So, what exactly is Hahm tradition in Korean culture?
As per The Kraze, Hahm is a tradition in which the Korean groom and his family present the bride's family with a box that they exchange for giving away their daughter to be the daughter-in-law of the other family. The box often contains gifts for the bride like jewelry, makeup, and other things. Once the ceremony is over, it symbolizes that the bride's family has accepted the groom and given away their daughter to be married. Deavan and her parents were happy to be part of the tradition. She felt good to find out that Jihoon was trying to make her family feel at home.
At the same time, she was excited to find out what her mother thought of Jihoon. Last time, she had a problem with how he was not taking responsibility for the family. However, coming for the second time, he had a different view about him. Deavan's mother thought Jihoon was trying hard to turn his life around.
She admitted things looked better than the last time she had visited their place. Deavan felt pleased to know her mother had finally accepted Jihoon. Now, the only thing left for the couple is to walk down the aisle.
