Florida man, 70, arrested for impregnating 13-year-old girl: 'He would touch her and have sex with her'
A 70-year-old Florida man is facing multiple charges after he was found to have impregnated a 13-year-old girl. According to Palm Beach Post, Renaud Jerome was arrested on Saturday, May 25, after his victim went to the North Broward Medical Center at around 11 am the previous day complaining of abdominal pain and was found by doctors to be 14 weeks pregnant.
They subsequently contacted the Broward County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Children and Families, who responded to the scene and opened an investigation into the matter.
When questioned by detectives, the teen revealed that Jerome "would touch her and have sex with her" and that she had been repeatedly raped by him at the Boca Raton home they lived in together. The relationship between her and the 70-year-old is unclear as it has been redacted from Boca Raton police records.
Jerome, who was also at the hospital with the girl, reportedly told authorities that he helps care for her. He did not deny having sex with her and said he had done so several times over the past few months, but insisted it was consensual. He also admitted that the unborn child was his.
"Jerome stated that within the last couple of months he has had consensual vaginal intercourse with [redacted] three times," police wrote in the report. "Jerome stated that [redacted] was interested in him more than he was interested in her and never forced her to do anything."
However, the age of consent in the state of Florida is 18, according to statutes, though people between the ages of 16 and 17 can give consent to a partner who is not older than 23. Under no circumstances can anyone under the age of 16 consent to sexual activity, which led to police arresting and charging Jerome in connection to the teen's pregnancy.
Jerome is facing multiple counts of illegal sexual activity with a minor as well as a charge of impregnating a child. Following his initial court appearance, he was ordered by a judge to have no contact with the teen or anyone under the age of 18. He is currently being held at the Palm Beach County Jail and does not have an option to walk free by posting bond.
