ILLINOIS, CHICAGO: Three 13-year-old teenagers have been arrested after a 71-year-old man died following what police believe to be a crash involving a stolen vehicle. A Kia with a damaged driver's side window was spotted on Kedzie Avenue at around 2:30 pm on Sunday, February 12, according to Robbins Police officer, Sean Howard, a spokesman for the Robbins Police Department.

Howard, the officer, could see smoke coming from the collision a few blocks away as he drew nearer to the Kia. The 71-year-old man was found in another automobile and was transferred to a hospital where he eventually passed away, Howard said as per a report.

The three teenagers in the stolen Kia are all 13 years old and were arrested on the scene, according to the police, WGNTV reported. The identity of those arrested and 71-year-old victim has not been released. The Kia had crashed into a Ford Taurus, police said, and a 71-year-old man was removed from the Ford and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He died at the hospital from his injuries.

The Robbins Police Department is working with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office investigating the fatal crash, police chief David Sheppard said, as per Chicago Tribune. The Kia was later discovered to be stolen.

It took firefighters 20 minutes to pull the man out

It took firefighters in the Southern suburb about twenty minutes to get him out. "We were the first arriving unit and found one vehicle with heavy damage in a ditch with a person still inside the vehicle," Fire chief with the Robbins Fire Department, Nick Malley Sr, told CBS Chicago.

Robbins police recently announced on Facebook that they had acquired 60 steering wheel locks for locals who own a Kia with a model year between 2009 and 2021 that requires a physical key to start the ignition.

"The Robbins Police Department has been in contact with the Kia Motor Vehicle Company and was able to obtain 60 steering wheel locks for residents within the village."  The Village of Robbins Illinois announced in a Facebook post.

"The steering wheel locks will be provided to Robbins residents at the police station that owns a Kia vehicle that uses a physical key to start the ignition/motor from 2009-2021. Not models with a key FOB. If any steering locks remain after this initial first issue, all remaining will be issued to any Robbins resident who owns a vehicle until the supply is exhausted," it said.

"The resident will have to provide their driver’s license/state identification card along with the vehicle’s registration card showing village residency. Kia steering wheel locks will be on a first-come, first-served basis until the steering wheel locks are gone."
