Writers Guild of America Awards 2021 Nominations List: 'The White Tiger', 'Judas and the Black Messiah' and 'Palm Springs' make the cut

Here's all you need to know about the 'Writers Guild of America' Awards nominations list. Who has been snubbed and who gets the nod

The accolades continue to pour in for 'The White Tiger'. Ramin Bahrani's film 'The White Tiger' along with films like 'Judas and the Black Messiah' from Shaka King and 'Palm Springs' from Max Barbakow were all a part of the 2021 Writers Guild of America awards nominations list. However some like 'Never Rarely Sometimes Always' in the original screenplay category, 'First Cow' and 'I’m Thinking of Ending Things' in the adapted screenplay category were snubbed. It has also not gone unnoticed that only four women have been nominated. Emerald Fennell for 'Promising Young Woman' and Jena Friedman, Erica Rivinoja and Nina Pedrad, the three co-writers from 'Borat Subsequent Moviefilm'.

Nina, sister of Nasim Pedrad of 'Saturday Night Live' fame and an Iranian American is the only woman of color among the nominees. If she is nominated for an Oscar, she would be just the fourth Asian ever nominated in adapted screenplay. There has been a disappointment that Radha Blank's powerful 'The Forty Year Old Version' didn't make the cut and even Sofia Coppola with the legacy she carries lost out on a nomination for 'On the Rocks' starring Rashida Jones and Bill Murray.

'Never Rarely Sometimes Always” from writer and director Eliza Hittman was snubbed despite garnering the third-highest critical precursor awards this year for her original script, most notably from the New York Film Critics Circle and National Society of Film Critics.

However, one show that is often snubbed by the bigger awards 'Better Call Saul' has received several nods. 'Better Call Saul' earned five nods this year including 'Best Drama Series' and three nominations for the episodes 'Bad Choice Road', 'JMM', and 'Something Unforgivable'. 'Better Call Saul' is closely followed Apple TV+’s comedy series 'Ted Lasso' and Hulu’s historical comedy series 'The Great', both with three nominations.

The Writers Guild Awards honor outstanding writing in film, television, new media, news, radio/audio and promotional categories. The 73rd Annual 'Writers Guild of America' awards will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2021. Here's the full list of nominations below, check out if any of your favorites have made the cut.
