2020 NBA Draft: Minnesota Timberwolves pick Anthony Edwards, fans say 'he won't live up to expectations'

Minnesota Timberwolves pick Anthony Edwards as the No.1 overall draft pick in the 2020 NBA Draft which got underway on Wednesday on ESPN. Adam Silver, the NBA Commissioner wasted no time in getting the world up to speed about how the draft came to be a virtual affair for the first time in the history of the sport. Edwards hails from the University of Georgia and was seen picking up the Timberwolves cap as soon as he received news of his pick.

"I am blessed beyond measure to be in this situation," Edwards said after the pick. He paid rich tribute to his late mother and grandmother with a custom tee. The three-level scorer status holds him in good stead for Minnesota. According to the Athletic's scouting report, Edwards had all the qualities to be an All-Star.

"Edwards has every single physical attribute in order to become an All-Star. That translates into him being a high-level shot creator. But right now, he just doesn’t play winning basketball due to his shot decisions and poor defensive effort. Basically, Edwards’ future comes down to Edwards himself. If he wants to become an All-Star, he can do that. All it will take is hard work and an insatiable desire to be great," it said. There were enough reactions on Twitter as well.

"I can 1000 dollars he’s going to be a bust not going to live up to the expectations going to get traded in yr 3," read one of the tweets.

"Thought Lamelo Ball was guaranteed to be number 1 by your ace NBA expert- guess it was all talk," read one of the tweets. "Number 1 pick saying this doesn’t say much to justify Anthony Edwards being the number 1 pick. Dude gonna get bored halfway thru the season and fake an injury...." a tweet read. "I knew the first 3 1. Anthony Edwards 2. James Wiseman 3. LaMelo Ball" one of the fans opined.
