LIVONIA, MICHIGAN: The two unidentified Detroit police officers were discovered Sunday, February 19 in an apartment complex in Livonia, Michigan. The two DPD officers, who were said to be dating, were found dead after what their fellow police alleged was a domestic quarrel and murder-suicide.

On Sunday, February 19 the bodies of the 26-year-old male police and 22-year-old female officer were discovered in a complex at 6 Mile and Farmington. Authorities claim that a baby who was unharmed and inside the residence was given to a family member, as reported by Fox 2 Detroit. It's not certain when the couple was killed because both of their remains were found when the neighborhood officers stumbled across them. James E White, the chief of the Detroit Police Department, made an appearance outside the apartment complex on the afternoon of Sunday, February 19 shortly after the bodies were found. He stated that they were not identifying the policemen but did clarify that they had been romantically involved. Chief White disclosed that Livonia police will be handling the case of the dead officers while officers appeared to be grieving in the background.

What is currently known about the deaths?

Despite not being a part of the ongoing investigation, Chief White disclosed that he and other officers from his department who had visited the crime scene, an apartment inside the aforementioned complex, believed the incident was the result of a "domestic" argument between the two officers as well as a murder-suicide.

White gave a brief update to the media shortly after the bodies were found at around 4.30 pm, and called the scenario "a very tragic situation." He said, "This information is preliminary and subject to change. I just want to provide you with something, since we're all here."

White made it clear that even though members of his department were present, he and his officers were only there due to the circumstances of the case and the victims. "Obviously, we are not doing an investigation," he said. "This is the Livonia Police Department's case. You'll be hearing from them later."

Regarding the identification of the two officers, White said, "From our perspective, very tragic, or sad, course of events. [We] cannot release their names right now – I'm sure you'll get that later. We have to respect Livonia's process of investigation, but it appears to be domestic – it looks like, preliminarily, a murder-suicide, and that's where we are right now."

'Sad day for the police department'

White called the tragedy a "sad day for the police department" and expressed the department's "thoughts and prayers" to the victims' family members. Then, in addition to those who knew the victims, White singled out an almost 2,500 law enforcement officers under his command, stating that they "are taking it pretty hard."

Many police officers from the department were present and appeared to be engaged in conversation while the chief addressed the media. "That's really all we got right now," White said, adding that police are still investigating the incident.
