An 11-month-old infant is in critical condition after being shot  three times inside a car in Pennsylvania. The baby was riding with his stepmother Saturday night when she heard gunshots on the 700 block of West Luzerne Street in North Philadelphia, NBC 10 reports. In a desperate effort to get away from the gunfire, she continued driving to the 4900 block of North Carmac Street.

Roughly 10 minutes after she arrived at her destination, she noticed there were at least five bullet holes in her car. To her horror, she discovered the baby had been shot three times, per the Philadelphia Police Department.

They said the baby sustained gunshot wounds to the head, chest, and buttocks.

The stepmother rushed the boy to Einstein Medical Center, from where he was transferred to St. Christopher's Hospital for critical medical attention. As of now, the tot is still listed in extremely critical condition.

Neighbor Kim Cash expressed her disbelief with the freak incident to the outlet. "I can't believe it," she said. "I hope that baby pulls through. I really do. I really do. Eleven months old. My heart is breaking right now. I don't know what to do."

Authorities are yet to make an arrest with regard to the mysterious shooting. Also, they have not yet released a description of the shooting suspect. Having said that, three men had been shot less than a mile from the scene about an hour earlier.

According to NBC 10, all three victims, aged 28, 41, and 35, were taken to Temple University Hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds in the stomach, back, and thigh respectively. While they are currently in stable condition, no arrests have yet been made.

If you have any information on any of the shootings, you are urged to call Philadelphia Police.
