Biggest box office hits of 2018: Black Panther
'Black Panther' is the biggest box office hit of 2018 after it generated a haul of $700,059,566 in the US box office. Though in the world box office it landed the second spot with a haul of $1,346,913,161. 'Black Panther' is the first film since 'Avatar' to top the box office for five consecutive weekends. The movie also broke 'Deadpool's' record of $132.4 million for the highest weekend debut in February, for a winter release, and for the President's Day weekend.
Avengers: Infinity War
Taking the second spot at the box office this year is 'Avengers: Infinity War' with a total gross of $678,815,482. But in the world box office hits the movie ranks No 1 with a haul of $2,046,900,111. The movie also broke 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens's 12-day record for the fastest film to gross $1 billion worldwide. 'Avengers: Infinity Wars' crossed that mark in just 11 days.
Incredibles 2
'Incredibles 2' generated a gross of $608,507,207 claiming the third spot. And it also broke 'Finding Dory's' record for achieving the highest weekend debut for a Pixar animated film and highest animated debut of all time. 'Incredibles 2' also broke 'Beauty and the Beast's record for the PG-rated film's debut. It takes the third spot in the world box office hits with a haul of $1,240,258,133.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Taking the fourth spot this year in the box office hits is 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' with a gross of $416,769,345. 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' along with 'Incredibles 2' became one of the first two movies to turn in over $100 million in over two consecutive weekends alone, since 'Shrek the Third' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End' in 2007, and this also happens to be the first time this had ever happened over two non-holiday weekends. The movie held the fourth spot in the world box office hits with a haul of $1,304,937,955.
Deadpool 2
Though 'Deadpool 2' ranked seventh in the world box office hits list with a gross of $734,245,921, in the US box office it had a haul of $318,491,426, clinching the fifth spot. The movie also broke the records for the highest grossing Thursday preview night and also the biggest opening day for an R-rated film. Apart from that, 'Deadpool 2' also broke 'Matrix: Reloaded's record for the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated sequel.
Mission: Impossible – Fallout
Ranking sixth this year is 'Mission: Impossible – Fallout' with a haul of $220,159,104. Starring Tom Cruise, Henry Cavill, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris, Angela Bassett, Michelle Monaghan and Alec Baldwin, the movie also gained the same sixth spot in the world box office with a gross of $791,017,452.
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Disney's 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' generated a total of $216,648,740 landing itself in the seventh spot this year. This is the fourth Disney movie to make its way into the top 10 box office hits this year. When it comes to the world box office list, the film took the eighth spot with a gross of $622,604,622.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
The fifth movie of Disney to make its way into the box office hits this year is 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' with a haul of $213,767,512. Not that much of a difference when compared to 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'. Sadly the movie did not make its mark in the world box office hits. The movie was directed by Ron Howard.
Venom
Though Sony's 'Venom' gained the fifth spot in the world box office with a total of $822,507,620, when it comes to the domestic box office hits it ranks low in the ninth spot. It generated a haul of $211,707,620. It is still not that big a difference compared to 'Solo: A Star Wars Story'. But it did break 'Gravity's record for the highest weekend debut in October.
A Star is Born
Ranking No 10 in the box office hits is Warner Bros. 'A Star is Born' with a haul of $191,005,173. Starring Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga, Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chappelle and Sam Elliott, this film however did not make it to the world box office.
'Operation Red Sea' and 'Ready Player One'
Though it is not among the movies in the domestic box office hits, 'Operation Red Sea' a 2018 Chinese action war film directed by Dante Lam is the only international film to make its way in the world box office hits. It took the tenth and final spot with a haul of $579,220,560 and it was the second highest grossing film in China. Ranking in the ninth spot at the world box office is 'Ready Player One' with a gross of $582,218,455. This movie did not make the cut into the domestic box office either.
