LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Acolyte' Episode 3 premiered on Disney+ on June 11, 2024. The episode was an interesting deep dive into Mae and Osha's emotional backstory and delved into Mae's vengeful motives behind killing the Jedi.

Events in 'The Acolyte' happen at the end of the High Republic Era and about a century before 'Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace'. The show chronicles the rise of the Dark side with a villain whose identity is still under wraps.

The series follows Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) who teams up with Osha (Amandla Stenberg), her former disciple to stop her twin sister Mae from killing the Jedi.

After Episodes 1 and 2 establish the characters' ordinary world, Episode 3 goes 16 years back in time to the home planet of Mae and Osha named Brendok to see the origins of their story and Mother Aniseya's (Jodie Turner-Smith) coven

'The Acolyte' Episode 3 was a flashback into the past of Mae and Osha and establishes Mother Aniseya (Jodie Turner-Smith) who introduces both of them to the Force.

Mae and Osha must undergo an ascension ceremony, making them witches like Mother Aniseya, but while Mae is excited about the ascension and good at her training too, Osha is nervous about the ascension and wants to explore the depths of the galaxies.

The Jedi who Mae is targeting in the first two episodes arrive to test Mae and Osha for Force sensitivity. Aniseya and Mother Koril (Margarita Levieva) are not keen on letting Mae and Osha leave and ask them to deliberately fail the test.

Osha who is keen on leaving though is asked by Aniseya to decide on her future but as she prepares to leave, Mae burns her journal escalating into a fire that took place due to a reactor core that burns the entire coven. Sol however saves Osha just before she could die.

Episode 3 in 'The Acolyte' was a break from the storytelling of the first two episodes and went back in time to explore Mae and Osha's origins. Episode 4 however will return to the narrative with the Jedi trying to stop Mae from killing Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo).

We know now that Mae survived the fire and is gunning for revenge so it will be a cat-and-mouse game between the Jedi and Osha and Mae. Kelnacca who we know from the end of the second episode is in exile in the woods and it will be a challenge to track him down for Mae as well.

We may learn about the identity of the masked figure we see in the first episode who seems to be Mae's master. The fact that the master and Mae are targeting the four Jedi who wanted to take Mae and Osha away could also hint at the masked figure being one of the witches who survived the fire at the coven. In that case, she might help Mae kill Kelnacca and we may finally know about who the masked figure is.

Episodes 1, 2, and 3 of 'The Acolyte' are streaming on Disney+
