Actress Scarlett Johansson has spoken out defending director Woody Allen amid allegations that he sexually abused his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, in 1992.

According to a report by Hollywood Reporter, Johansson believes Allen did not sexually abuse his daughter. The 34-year-old actress has starred in three of Woody Allen's films — 'Match Point' (2005), 'Scoop' (2006), and 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' (2008).

She shared, "I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime. I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he's very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him."

In 1992, Allen's daughter, Dylan Farrow, had claimed that he had sexually abused her at the Connecticut home that she shared with her mother, Mia Farrow. At the time of the alleged abuse, Farrow was around seven years old. In 1993, a court case concluded that the allegations of the abuse could not be proven.

Till today, Allen has always insisted that he is innocent. He had also continued to be very successful and enjoyed critical and commercial successes. The highly spoken-about trial was amplified after speculation that he had started a consensual relationship with another one of Mia's adopted children, Soon-Yi Previn.

Previn was around 21 years old when she started to date Allen who was 56. Dylan wrote an open letter in The New York Times in 2014 where she detailed the abuse that she had experienced at the hands of Allen. Given the rise of the MeToo era, many celebrities who had previously starred in his films, have shared that they regret doing so.

Some of these celebrities include the likes of Ellen Page, Greta Gerwig, and Natalie Portman. His latest movie titled 'A Rainy Day in New York' which features Selena Gomez, Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning and Kelly Rohrbach has been shelved in the US.

Johansson has always been very active in women's issues. Last year at the 2018 Women's March on Washington, she gave a very heartfelt and passionate speech about the importance of Planned Parenthood and women's health.
