Royals fans are STILL confused about the story of how Kate Middleton first met the queen
Like every other marriage that takes place in the British royal family, the marriage between Prince William and Kate Middleton had to be approved by Queen Elizabeth. However, for that to happen, Kate had to first meet her royal majesty. Back in 2008, Kate got the chance to meet Queen Elizabeth for the first time. The now-Duchess of Cambridge was first introduced to the Queen at the wedding of William's first cousin, Peter Phillips, in Windsor.
Even though Prince William and Kate had been dating for a while, Kate had never met William's grandmother. Undoubtedly, it was a big a moment. Luckily for her, everything went very smoothly.
Kate even spoke about the first meeting in an engagement interview in 2010. "Well, I first met her at Peter and Autumn's wedding and again it was in amongst a lot of other guests. She was very friendly, and yes, it was fine," Kate said, as reported by Hello! Magazine.
To this, William chimed in stating: "She was very welcoming. She knew it was a big day and everything was going on with Peter and Autumn, she had wanted to meet Kate for a while, so it was very nice for her to come over and say hello, we had a little chat and got on really well."
However, fans were left confused because William was unable to make Peter and Autumn's wedding. William was abroad in Kenya attending the wedding of his ex-girlfriend Jecca Craig's brother. Prince William has always been close to Jecca's family and did not hesitate to accept the invitation. He also attended Jecca's wedding in 2016.
At the time, a source said that the royal family was OK with William's decision to skip the wedding. "Prince William is going to be out of the country this weekend on a long-standing prior engagement," the insider said. "It is an unfortunate clash but he spoke to his cousin Peter and he is fine with the situation. His girlfriend will be going in his absence." This has royal fans scratching their heads.
The pair tied the knot on April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey. William and Kate met in 2001, but it wasn't until 2004 that they began dating. Even though the two split for a brief period, they realized that they couldn't stay apart. On November 16, 2010, Clarence House stated that Prince William was to marry Catherine Middleton "in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London".
William proposed to Kate while the two were on a private holiday in Kenya. He gave her the same engagement ring that his father had given to William's mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, It was an 18-karat white gold ring with a 12-carat oval Ceylon sapphire and 14 round diamonds.
