Pornhub 2022 in Review: 'Lesbian' remains most-searched US category with HENTAI coming in second
Pornhub is revealing America's top popular searches for X-rated content in 2022. Lesbian was the most commonly searched word across the 50 states, with the Japanese anime genre "hentai" coming in second. The company revealed the dirty statistics on Tuesday, December 13.
The tube site, which is owned by the industry group MindGeek, is one of the most popular in the world. It received one billion views in December 2021, for example. Women now make up 29% of Pornhub's audience in the US, an increase of 4% over the previous year. Globally, women now make up 36% of viewers globally, a 4% increase from the previous year, as reported by Mashable.

Since Pornhub began monitoring the gender split in its 2014 Year in Review, "lesbian" has consistently ranked as the top term among female viewers. This number undoubtedly includes viewers who enjoy seeing content starring other women, but it also includes some straight women who enjoy lesbian porn. This is due to several factors, including the fact that women-only porn is more taboo and can be less forceful than straight porn. It also focuses on women and their pleasure, even if all porn is a performance for the audience.
Threesomes, "MILF," and the category "popular with women" are among the other categories that appeal to women. In 2022, women searched for scissors 155 percent more often than men did. Women were more drawn to porn on Pornhub that included trans males, single men, and p***y licking, among others. There are Pornhub alternatives that are free or paid, in video or audio format, for people who don't like browsing the site but still want to watch or listen to their dose of lesbian or other queer porn.
While the terms "Fortnite" and "Bowsette" showed a spike in searches in 2018, 'amateur' and 'aliens' were the platform's trending topic topics in 2019. One particular search, "quarantine," stood out for 2020. "Hentai" leads the list of the most searched terms in 2021. The company said in 2021, "hundreds of thousands of hentai videos can be found on our website, including professional productions, homemade animations made by fans and 3D generated scenes," as reported by New York Post. The other top five search terms in 2021 include Hentai, Japanese, Lesbian, MILF, and Pinay. In 2022, women's top five searched terms include Lesbian, Japanese, Threesome, Ebony, and Mature.
