'Wonder Woman 1984': Breaking down Gal Gadot's suits from the highly-anticipated Patty Jenkins sequel
'Wonder Woman 1984' may still be a couple of months away from hitting theatres, but that hasn't stopped the much-anticipated flick from dishing out something new for fans at regular intervals.
Earlier, Gal Gadot made the covers of Empire Magazine which featured a detailed look at both her costumes from the upcoming sequel and one of them is the legendary Eagle Armor.
The regular red, gold and blue outfit doesn't really have much in terms of design change, however, the full-body armor is an entirely new look to the character, previously seen only in comics.
Breaking down the suits, the original suit is quite similar to Diana Prince's outfit from the 'Justice League' animated cartoon series, except she loses the stars, while the other color elements remain the same.
The tiara and the gauntlets are retained while her classic weapons — the sword of Athena, the shield and the lasso of truth will most definitely be seen in the film. The magazine cover sees Diana use the lasso which has been an integral part of all her DC appearances.
The Golden Eagle armor was first introduced in 'Kingdom Come', a part of the Elseworld’s series in 1996. Lex Luthor brings together all the planet's supervillains and they set the stage for a showdown.
Diana suits up with a massive metal wing armor from her watchtower wall. The most prominent look in the full-gold Eagle armor is the wings and the beaked helm. While the magazine cover gives a complete frontal look, there is no sign of the headgear or the wings.
The chest armor seems metallic by nature and does serve as the padding even for the legs and shoulders. The gauntlets still remain while her arms are covered by a golden suit.
While much of the suit's abilities are kept under wraps, it is safe to say that this would be the Plan B suit in case things go south. That DC is looking to delve deeper into the character arc might be another reason to bring in the armor.
'WW 1984' pits Diana against a formidable foe by the name of Cheetah. The popular theory at the moment is that she gets the armor while fighting Barbara Minerva aka The Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). The comic's storyline sees the Diana vs Barbara battle end on an emotional note for the latter.
According to Screenrant, the scene begins with Diana seeking the foe out and withstanding one lightning slash and a claw after another, all the while imploring Barbara to listen to her. In the end, Barbara yields breaking down to tears.
The official synopsis of 'WW1984' reads: "Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big-screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah."
'Wonder Woman 1984' will release on August 14, 2020.
