Jason Momoa, 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star's action comedy gets promising sequel update
'The Wrecking Crew' writer Jonathan Tropper had promising news for a potential sequel. The Amazon Prime Video's latest action comedy, starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista has been a hit with the audience. The movie follows estranged half-brothers, Jonny and James, as they reunite to investigate their father's mysterious death.
Speaking to The Direct, Tropper shed light on the possibility of a sequel. "I've talked about it with Jason [Momoa] a little bit, and I would have talked about it with Dave [Bautista], except Dave is so busy making two other movies right now. But yeah, I think we have a pretty strong idea," the writer said. "These brothers are now united in a way they weren't before and so I think if we did another one, it would be basically to up the ante, up the stakes, and put them in a much more difficult situation than they were in the first one ... and watch sort of whatever relationship they've built between the first and the second one start to unravel, because they're thrown into the trenches again together."
However, much depends on whether the streaming giant would be keen on a second instalment. "But you know, we have some ideas about where it goes. We just have to wait and see if Amazon wants another one," Tropper added.
For those yet to watch the actioner, the logline reads, "Estranged half-brothers Jonny and James reunite after their father's mysterious death. As they search for the truth, buried secrets reveal a conspiracy threatening to tear their family apart. The Wrecking Crew stars Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams, and more. The film is directed by Angel Manuel Soto and written by Jonathan Tropper."
Ahead of the film's release, Soto teased the characters during his interview with Esquire: "Johnny’s more nihilistic and heavily relies on alcohol. His life’s a mess,” says Soto. “And you have Dave, who is this GI with a perfect family. He’s super tough. ... They’re both masks." He also shed light on the script.
"You have the plot, you have emotion, and then maybe you have, ‘What’s this saying about the world? What commentary are we making?" Jason brings this wild, crazy, unpredictable side,” Soto says. “And Dave brings this disciplined, methodical, slow-burning intensity to him. And well, they’re both big. They have a lot of gravity. As men, they couldn’t be more different from each other. So what you see in the movie is not that different from the way they are in real life."
'The Wrecking Crew' is streaming on Prime Video.
