LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In 'Mr. Throwback', Stephen Curry, the bonafide star of the NBA, gives a shot at acting by playing a fictionalized version of himself. As much as you may want to watch him more, the show may not return for another season.

Also starring actor and comedian Adam Pally, the six episodic series revolves around Danny Grossman, a memorabilia salesman who reconciles with NBA legend Stephen Curry, a teammate from his sixth-grade years, and embarks on a journey of regrets and redemption.

'Mr. Throwback' has been rolled out as a limited series, as the makers don't intend to drag it to further seasons. Moreover, the series gives a satisfying conclusion to the story, further limiting any scope of renewal.

As of August 2024, there has also been no announcement from the showrunners or the streaming network regarding 'Mr. Throwback' getting another season.

'Mr. Throwback' introduces Adam Pally as Danny Grossman, a divorced man who runs a vintage sports memorabilia shop in Chicago. He also owes a handsome money to the Polish mafia.

When he learns that the Warriors are playing in Chicago, he decides to meet his old friend turned famous NBA player, Stephen Curry.

Back in sixth grade, they used to be teammates and it was Danny who used to rule the court. However, his reputation suffered a setback when it was revealed that his dad lied about his age to give him an advantage over other players.

As Danny meets Stephen after the game, he tries to steal his jersey to pay off his debts. But when Stephen catches him red-handed, Danny lies that he needs money to pay off the medical bills of his daughter, Charlie, who has been diagnosed with a rare disease.

Convinced by his lie, Stephen goes to extra lengths to help him out while Danny tries to cover up his lie while dealing with the newfound attention with a celebrity game and a documentary filmmaker recording his every move.

As the series progresses, there's mounting pressure on Danny to tell Stephen the truth. Unable to do so, he confides in his estranged father, Mitch, who eventually takes the fall for him and lands in prison.

Danny plays along until he can't carry the guilt anymore and comes clean at the celebrity game. Stephen punches him in front of the crowd and disconnects all ties with him.

Six months forward, we see Danny finally feeling content with his life. He also develops a close bond with his father, who has left all the bad habits behind and enjoys his sobriety and family bonds.

Danny doesn't give up and continues to pursue Kimberly and Stephen for forgiveness. Kimberly finally forgives him, and also gives him a chance to meet Stephen and apologize to him personally as they jet off to Paris for Olympics 2024.

'Mr. Throwback' is now streaming on Peacock
