Will 'Prey' spawn a sequel? Director Dan Trachtenberg explains cryptic end credits
When Hulu announced that a new Predator movie, titled ‘Prey’, will be making its way to the streaming platform, everyone was skeptical of seeing another monster movie with too much CGI. However, the first of ‘Prey’ stunned everyone and viewers were eager to watch the movie. It’s been five days since the movie has been released on the streaming platform and it has already become the streamer’s biggest movie or TV series premiere ever. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the movie has received universal acclaim and without any guesses, rumors of the sequel have already started flowing around.
The dialogue started after seeing the end credits of the latest Hulu movie. The credits, in which we are shown the gist of the entire movie through moving pictures, end with Amber Midthunder’s Naru becoming the new tribal chief after defeating the alien creature. However, they soon look up to the sky and see three alien spaceships entering the earth’s atmosphere making us realize that aliens have come back and they might be looking for revenge. This means that we could see new stories from the ‘Predator’ world coming out really soon.

However, who can answer this burning question better than the director himself? So, Dan Trachtenberg recently opened up about his plans to take the ‘Predator’ universe ahead and tell stories that would keep the franchise on the right track. When asked about the franchise’s future, the filmmaker noted that he was indeed looking to make something that could leave space for compelling stories to be told in the future, but later realized that he should just stick to the basics and make the “best movie possible”.
“The nerd in me looked that far ahead, as far as he could look, before we started writing this movie, but the adult in me said, ‘Don’t count your chickens and just be careful. Try and make the best movie possible, straight away'. End-credit sequence aside, there is something refreshing about seeing a movie that is not really intended to be just a part one to something else,” Trachtenberg told The Hollywood Reporter.
He continued, “On the complete another hand, I love that what would’ve been a post-credit scene in other movies, is an animated end-title sequence in our movie. Our end titles are still storytelling.”
While a sequel hasn’t been announced by 20th Century Studios, the news of ‘Prey’ being the streamer’s biggest premiere ever will surely encourage the studio and makers to explore the ‘Predator’ world in a more interesting way. Set almost 300 years before the original 1987 film, ‘Prey’ talks about a Comanche warrior named Naru (Amber Midthunder) who encounters an alien creature in the Great Plains of North America and tries hunting it.
Apart from the movie, Midthunder’s performance is garnering rave reviews and the actress is being touted as the first indigenous female action star in Hollywood.
The movie has become the highest-rated movie in the ‘Predator’ universe and currently holds a rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
‘Prey’ is currently streaming on Hulu.
