LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Katy Perry has been chastised by 'American Idol' fans for reprimanding two contestants and evicting one whom they thought deserved to remain. Nutsa Abuza and Carina DeAngelo struggled to work together on a duet during the April 3 episode of the music competition series, according to the controversial judge.

During an episode of 'American Idol,' singers were requested to team up and perform a cohesive composition together. Nutsa and Carina are friends who quickly form alliances and then fell out. They disagreed about how long they should perform in front of the judges before mounting the stage. They fought again over their stage costumes, with Carina choosing a relaxed look comprised of a black top, a torn denim jacket, and distressed denim trousers, and Nutsa going large in a neon overcoat and full glam.

'Bad judgment': Internet slams 'American Idol' judges for sending Carina home, say 'Nutsa set her up'

Katy Perry lashes out at contestants

Before performing, Nutsa and Carina disclosed their challenges to the judges, with Carina admitting they had encountered difficulties. Katy was instantly intrigued and wanted to learn more. When Carina disclosed that Nutsa preferred to sleep the night before the performance rather than remain up all night, the 'California Girls' vocalist proudly proposed, "Maybe we should just let them sing."

They sang 'I Put a Spell on You' and it was clear right away that the performance did not sit well with the judges, particularly Katy. Lionel Richie started, "I must admit it was a little," but was cut off by Katy, who said, "Underwhelming." "I just think the energy was broken between both of you, and so I think you couldn't give each other the energy you both needed," she continued. "That you both deserved. I think you’re both better than that performance."

Nutsa was the first to acknowledge the performance was a "disaster," as she murmured on stage. Carina was eventually eliminated while Nutsa was given the chance to move on to Showstoppers Week. This elimination, like Katy's response to the performance, irritated some viewers.

Katy accused of bullying ex-contestant Sara Beth

Katy was accused of bullying contestant Sara Beth Lieb earlier this season. Sara admitted on the April 2 episode that she was battling with her confidence. She also admitted to watchers that she was lonely. The California native ascended the stage after speaking with former 'American Idol' contestant Clay Aiken to get some pointers for her Hollywood Week act. She wowed the judges, including Katy, with her performance of "Roxanne" by The Police.

"This opportunity is really rad, but this is actually gonna be my last performance because my heart is at home," Sara said before they could offer her any comments on her music. The judges and producers persuaded Sara to return to the stage, where Katy made an impassioned plea for her to remain. She did eventually return home. Fans immediately went to social media to call out Katy, believing this is the ripple-down effect of Katy, mom-shaming Sara on national TV.

'You should be ashamed of yourself'

Viewers took to the comment section of Katy's latest Instagram post to call out the judge for her antics. A follower commented, "Awe I hope you feel bad for embarrassing that talented mom from Roseville CA!" Reacting to Katy's 'ugly cry face' post, a fan wrote, "That’s how that 23 year old mom of 3 cried when you mom-shamed her during her audition." A fourth person added, "You were a real petty bi*ch to that mom. From the moment she walked in the room you were unbelievably rude to her. You should be ashamed of yourself. Ask yourself why you did that." One follower further wrote, "Katy was nasty with her ignorant comments. Shameful."

'American Idol' Season 21 airs every Sundays and Mondays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
