Amazon's highly anticipated project, 'Tomb Raider,' has paused production unexpectedly. This comes after actress Sophie Turner, who plays the lead role of Lara Croft in the upcoming series adaptation, sustained an injury on set, according to Entertainment Weekly. Amazon MGM Studios clarified in a statement to the publication that it is a "minor" injury, saying, "Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury. As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible." The production initially began on January 15, but no release date has been announced yet. This is the fourth live-action adaptation of the beloved video game, with Turner being the third actress after Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander to play the iconic role.

As per The Sun's source, "Sophie has been throwing herself into the role, but the gruelling physicality of being Lara Croft has meant she has pushed her body too far." During an earlier appearance on 'The Julia Cunningham Show,' the actress herself spoke about the intense training for the role. She revealed that she had been training eight hours a day, five days a week, admitting, "It’s been a lot." When asked about the most surprising thing she learned about her body, she added, "I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem." The back issue may have been triggered while shooting arduous scenes at Shepperton Studios in Surrey. However, there is currently no further information about Turner's injury.

Sophie Turner plays Lara Croft, the adventurer, archaeologist, and heiress who serves as the main character of the Tomb Raider series. Turner was cast in the role in September 2024. "I'm so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team. It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving," showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge shared at the time. The show also features a stellar cast, including Sigourney Weaver, Bill Paterson, Jason Isaacs, and Celia Imrie. As per Page Six, Turner is likely to recover and return to the set in two weeks. Until then, the cast and crew will remain busy with prep work. The upcoming adaptation is a revival of the iconic game of the same name. The first video game was released in 1996, and Lara Croft soon became an action icon. Fans are now eager to see Sophie Turner step into the shoes of the character and bring a fresh take to the legendary adventurer.
