LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A young California couple became a victim of a horrific shooting after they were gunned down in front of their one-year-old son, who was sitting in the backseat of their car. Carlos Loera, 21, and Ashley Guzman, 18, both lost their lives due to the incident that took place in Harbor City, Los Angeles.

Loera was pronounced dead at the scene while Guzman died after she was taken to a medical facility. Authorities said that the child was also struck by a bullet fragment and was rushed to a hospital. The baby has since been released to close relatives.

Have authorities arrested anyone for Carlos Loera and Ashley Guzman's killings?

According to People Magazine, police have not yet identified any suspect. They are presently seeking help from the public to solve the tragic incident. The Los Angeles Times reported that investigators believe the victims were approached by one or multiple suspects who fired at them before escaping the scene.

Several bullet holes were seen in the car’s driver’s side window and a Nike Air Max shoe sat next to the car next to an evidence marker, the outlet added. ABC 7 reported that authorities consider the shooting gang-related and not a random attack.

GoFundMe set up in honor of Carlos Loera

A GoFundMe page has since been set up in honor of Loera with the goal of raising $30,000 for the family. Over $1,500 has been raised so far. "This small family had a lifetime ahead of them but tragically their lives were cut short," friend Javier Martinez, who created the page, said.

On the fundraising page, Martinez wrote, "Now a baby will have to grow up without his parents and the families will have to live with the pain this senseless act of violence has brought upon them. Although being a young father Carlos loved his family very much and was working to give his family a better life. "

He added, "He grew up in a single-parent home and as he grew he was helping his mother with the responsibilities of being a provider. With both Carlos and Ashley gone both families are left with the responsibility of caring for their son and with all other needs that need to be met."

"As a community we are reaching out to help receive the monetary donations necessary that will assist the Loera family in their time of grief and need," Martinez concluded.
