AURORA, COLORADO: A teenage boy has lost his life after a man, who suspected that he and another teen were trying to steal his car, fired bullets at them. Xavier Kirk, 14, reportedly died due to gunshot wounds while another 13-year-old boy suffered non-fatal injuries.

Aurora Police shared on its website that Orest Schur, 27, was responsible for the shooting. Schur has now been charged with one count of first-degree murder and another count of attempted first-degree murder. The police noted, “The charges stem from 11:20 pm Wednesday, when residents in the 19400 block of East 59th Place heard a car alarm going off and observed two people dressed in all black attempting to break into a Hyundai Elantra.”

“The vehicle owner, Schur, confronted the people. The two people sped away in another suspected stolen vehicle. Schur, who was armed, got into his Hyundai and followed the other vehicle until it crashed a short distance away in the 19500 block of East 58th Circle. During the incident, Schur fired several shots at the people he suspected of trying to break into his car, striking both,” it added.

Who was Xavier Kirk?

A GoFundMe to arrange money for Kirk’s funeral service has described him as “a loving son, grandson, nephew, and teammate.” The statement on the fundraiser further read, “Xavier was a bright young man who was about to enter high school in August. Tragedy struck his family when his life was cut short in a tragic accident. Barely out of middle school and he has left this earth to fly high in the sky with the angels. We are asking for anyone who would like to and can send donations and condolences for and to his family here.”

“With losing a child so young, they will bare the burden of several unexpected expenses and we would like to lift the burden as much as possible. Xavier loved his family, especially his sibling, and was an amazing older brother. He had a love for football like no other. He was prepared to enter high school and kick butt in every way possible academically as well as on the field. We will never know what he could have achieved, but it would have been amazing for sure,” it added.

‘He will be missed’

Meanwhile, some people have paid tribute to Kirk with a user writing on Facebook, “This baby right here was my son's best friend and he was taken way too soon by someone else's hands. He didn't deserve to be taken the way he was. This family is in need as you can imagine they weren't prepared for this. He was like another son to me and we miss him every day!!! I LOVE YOU X and we will NEVER forget you, baby boy.”

A person commented on GoFundMe, “Jade Burke is my granddaughter and he was her friend. RIP.” Another one added, “Such a force of positive energy and beautiful smile. He always brightened our day on and off the football field. He will be missed and live on in our hearts.”
