Who was Syqavius Hoyett? Memphis teen found dead days after grandmother killed by her boyfriend
MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE: A missing teen from Tennessee was discovered dead on Monday, Augist 21, just four days after his grandmother was allegedly shot and killed by her younger boyfriend.
The frantic search for Syqavius Hoyett, 15, came to a tragic end, with Memphis Police saying they suspected his killer to be the same man who allegedly murdered Syqavius' grandmother last week.
According to the Memphis Police Department, Herman Hollis-Brown will now face "additional charges" in connection with the young teen's death, as reported by NewYorkPost.
How was Syqavius Hoyett killed?
The circumstances surrounding Syqavius' death are unclear. He had been missing since August 16, the day before his grandmother and legal guardian Anneria Turman was discovered dead in a wooded area near her home.
According to an affidavit obtained by ABC 24, Turman was shot in the back of the head. Turman shared her home with boyfriend Hollis-Brown, who was not related to Syqavius, according to the woman's family.
Detectives arrived at Hollis-Brown's house after being "unable to locate Turman's grandson," where they allegedly discovered blood smears caked on the concrete floor.
Later, they allegedly discovered blood in multiple rooms of the house, as well as a metal fragment from a bullet projectile and Turman's cell phone and purse.
Investigators then discovered Hollis-Brown driving Turman's sedan near his home. According to court records, after stopping the car, police discovered more signs of violence, including blood running from the trunk to the back bumper.
What are the charges against Hollis-Brown?
During his arrest, Hollis-Brown allegedly told his family members, "I'm going to be gone for a while." According to jail records, the accused killer was booked on first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse charge. He appeared in court on Monday and is being held without bail.
It is unclear what charges he will face in connection with the death of Syqavius. Police are remaining tight-lipped about potential motives for either of the two murders.
TBI said in a Twitter post, “It is with a heavy heart that we pass along that 15-year-old Syqavius Hoyett’s body has been located, and he is deceased. We hope for comfort for all of those who knew and loved him."
