WORTH, ILLINOIS: Two suspects have been arrested in connection with multiple armed robberies after a single mother-of-two died while driving to the hospital after being shot in the chest at an Illinois ATM.

At 3 pm on Saturday, November 5, Jonnie Angel Klein had just dropped off her 15-year-old son when she stopped at the Chase Bank ATM on West 111th Street in Worth.

The 32-year-old was tragically shot in an apparent robbery seconds later, leaving her son and 10-year-old daughter orphaned.

Per Patch, Jonnie was a popular counter worker at the Dunkin’ Donut near 111th Street and Kedzie.

The young mother, who was caring for her two children while also nursing her cancer-stricken elderly mother, would have turned 32 next month.

Who are the suspects in Klien’s tragic killing?

The attempted robbery and shooting were caught on the security cameras at Chase Bank.

The next day, police arrested Jason Jerry Joseph Johnson, 23, and Tamara Jailynn Johnson, 22 from the adjacent Harvey district.

They claimed the duo were linked to previous armed robberies throughout the area and northwest Indiana.

“Multiple firearms were recovered, one of which is believed to be the weapon used in the homicide,” according to a statement from the Worth Police Department.

The arrested couple are scheduled to appear in Cook County Court in Bridgeview later today, on November 8, charged with Jonnie’s murder.

Jonnie Klein remembered as 'most caring, selfless person'

Jonnie's bereaved family has paid homage to the “light of our family,” who was also the sole caretaker for her elderly mother, who is battling cancer.

A GoFundMe page has also been set up in light of her tragic death to support and provide for her children's future.

The organizer for the donation, Jacquelyn Valasek, wrote, “She worked tirelessly to provide for her family without complaint.”

“She faced many battles head on; she was a warrior that never gave up,” she added. “Through her positive presence and servant attitude she shone God's light into so many people's lives without even knowing it.”

Angie Bustamantez shared a post on Facebook remembering her former school friend’s kindness to her when she became pregnant in high school.

“Everyone who knows Jonnie knew she carried herself very well and strongly but was the most caring, selfless person there is,” Angie wrote.

“She was the person who from day one would always keep it real with you,” she shared. “When I was pregnant in high school, she took me under her wing, befriended me and helped guide me as she was a young mother too.”

“When I first had Louis she was one of our first visitors, she just kept telling me how beautiful my son was and how proud she was of me,” Angie added.

She shared a link to her GoFundMe page and urged her friends and followers to donate as much as they could muster.

Nick Klein, Jonnie’s cousin, shared with ABC7Chicago that the biggest concern was now her two bereaved children.

“She's always been the light of our family, taking care of her mother, brother and kids,” he said.

Nick remembered her, “She's always been that person. She would give you the shirt off her back.”

By Tuesday night, the GoFundMe campaign had more than tripled its $12,000 goal in time for Klein's funeral the next Saturday at Thompson Kuenster in Oak Lawn.
