DALLAS, TEXAS: Tragedy struck the Baylor Meadows neighborhood in Dallas when a uniformed armored car guard, David Ruback, lost his life during an attempted robbery at a check cashing store in the 100 block of S. Carroll Avenue on the fateful Friday morning of September 1.

Dallas police have released photos of two suspects in the hope that someone can help identify them or their vehicle.

What led to the tragic shooting?

The incident unfolded just before 9.30 am when two Gardaworld armed security guards were in the process of delivering cash to the store.

While one of the guards went to the back door of the store, the 52-year-old Ruback was confronted by an armed suspect who tragically shot him.

Surveillance photos depict how the two armed suspects had donned black armor gear and were carrying long rifles. The images also capture a white four-door sedan associated with the suspects. Although the other guard escaped unharmed, Ruback was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

"My first reaction was that he was pulling a joke on me," Ruback's girlfriend, Terry Ball, recalled. "I called his cell phone, it rang a little bit, and then I think it was his boss who answered his cell phone and offered their condolences to me and I was just like numb," as per Fox News.

David Ruback was planning to retire

Ruback had dedicated more than two decades of his life to his role as a security guard at Gardaworld. While he took his job seriously, he was known for his sense of humor and his commitment to never being a dull presence in his loved ones' lives.

"He was a lot of fun. He said he was never going to be the boring boyfriend, he never wanted to be boring," Ball fondly recalled.

Ruback had plans to retire in the next few years. In fact, he and Terry had envisioned a life together. However, those dreams were shattered by the tragic events of that fateful morning.

"I keep thinking he will come out of the hallway or come in from the backyard. I keep expecting him to just walk back into the room," Ball lamented. "I am already missing him a lot!"

Ball is urging anyone with information of the suspects to come forward. "He had a life ahead of him. He had retirement plans. He was looking forward to doing, and none of that’s going to happen now. They need to be caught," she emphatically stated.

She also wants to ensure that people remember him. The funeral service for Ruback is scheduled to be held on Friday, September 8, one week after he tragically lost his life.

Anyone with information about the shooting or suspects is asked to call Dallas police or share a tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
