Who was April Zoglauer? Pregnant preschool teacher and her baby died in hit-and-run crash with a stolen SUV
SAN JOES, CALIFORNIA: Young and beloved preschool teacher April Zoglauer, from the Play’N’Learn Preschool in San Jose, California, tragically lost her life and her unborn baby in a hit-and-run accident on Tuesday, October 27.
The 21-year-old, who was 27 weeks pregnant with a baby boy named Devontae Aaron Zoglauer, had her baby delivered via C-section in emergency surgery.
How did April Zoglauer die?
Zoglauer was driving a 2008 black Nissan when she was hit by a stolen SUV that ran a red light at the intersection of Blossom Hill Road and Winfield Boulevard.
The driver and the passenger, considered to be both males, of the SUV fled the scene, leaving Zoglauer critically injured in her car.
She was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her baby was delivered via an emergency C-section, but sadly, he only survived for 24 hours before also succumbing.
“I just can’t make any sense of it,” said Tammy Lariz, 45, who had known Zoglauer since her elementary school years and considered her one of her daughters. “Just so shocking, the whole thing. So sudden.”
Before her tragic death, April Zoglauer talked about her future
April was excited about becoming a mother and couldn't stop talking about the future, her friends said, as per Mercury News. She also talks about meeting her baby boy.
She served as a caregiver for a disabled woman and had intentions of joining her on a trip to Hawaii for some relaxation on the beach.
She had organized two gender reveal parties to celebrate the impending arrival of her baby.
Furthermore, she openly shared her pregnancy journey with the children at the preschool, who were eagerly anticipating the opportunity to meet and hold the baby.
The co-owner of the Play’N’Learn said, "Her job was just to love on them, and she was good at it." "Honestly, I’ve been doing this for 27 years, and I’ve never had somebody else who could do that job. Not the way she could do it."
She further added, "She was a blessing. She meant everything to us."
The preschool’s director, Angie Loza, said that Zoglauer’s pregnancy was a joy for all of them because she had grown up at the school, and they’d all known her for a long time.
Who killed April Zoglauer?
The police are still investigating the hit-and-run and are looking for the suspects who were driving a stolen white 2013 Hyundai.
They have asked anyone with information to contact them. Zoglauer’s family has set up a GoFundMe page.
"April was a cherished preschool teacher and beloved by all her students,' her family described her at the fundraiser, which had collected $19,220 on Friday.
Zoglauer had qualities of being kind and filled with "warmth" and the "love she gave to all who knew her."
