Who is Tyler Witham Jordan? Maine man arrested for murdering his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter on Christmas area
EDGECOMB, MAINE: A three-year-old child was killed in a devastating incident that took place on Christmas morning in 2022.
Nearly 10 months after the murder, a 29-year-old man named Tyler Witham Jordan was arrested in the case.
The Maine State Police took Jordan under custody on Friday, October 6, in connection to the alleged murder of Makinzlee Handrahan.
The arrest comes several months after the investigation into the tragic incident that shocked the community.
What are the charges against Tyler Witham Jordan?
Following his arrest on Friday, October 6, Jordan was formally charged with the incident that took place on December 25, 2022, at approximately 7.37 am.
The murder shook Edgecomb town when officials of Lincoln County responded to a distressing call about an unresponsive child.
Handrahan was not breathing when officials found her. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead as she succumbed to her injuries.
Subsequently, the medical examiner concluded that the young girl's death was a result of homicide.
As the investigation is ongoing, the exact cause of the three-year-old child's death has not been disclosed by the Maine State Police.
Victim's mother had sought a protective order against Tyler Jordan
At the time of the incident, the alleged murderer was reportedly in a relationship with the victim's mother.
WGME-TV reported that just two days before Handrahan's tragic death, her mother had sought a protective order against Jordan.
The victim's mother described Jordan as "verbally, mentally, and physically abusive," as per her protective order request.
She further alleged that "Tyler has held me down to not let me up after screaming at me and trying to bite me."
The already distressing circumstances took a complex turn when her sons' father sought a protective order against her.
The father-of-two stated that he was concerned about his children's safety under her care, as per the court documents.
He also mentioned that Department of Health and Human Services caseworkers had noted that the children would be in jeopardy if they were returned to their mother. The man was eventually granted temporary custody of the two children.
According to True Crime Daily, the mother decided to terminate the protective order request in January.
Jordan, who is set to appear in court later this week, is currently in custody of law enforcement. After he was arrested on Friday, October 6, he was shifted to Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset.
