Who is Tammarre Lawrence? Woman who shot and killed her APD officer husband sentenced to life prison
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Following a three-year trial and conviction for shooting and killing her husband, the wife of a deceased veteran Atlanta Police Department officer will now serve a life sentence in prison.
On February 19, 2020, Tammarre Lawrence allegedly shot and killed Officer Stanley Lawrence at their Riverdale home, as per 11Alive News.
Tammarre Lawrence fatally shot and killed Officer Stanley Lawrence
According to Riverdale police, on February 19, 2020, 49-year-old Tammarre shot and killed her 58-year-old husband, Atlanta Police Officer Stanley Lawrence, as he was sitting on the couch in their living room.
The murderous act took place in the couple's residence on Oak Valley Drive, as per FOX 5 Atlanta.
According to evidence produced by the prosecution, trial witnesses testified that Tammarre admitted to shooting and killing her husband over the phone to a relative.
The couple had just been married for roughly a year at the time of the killing, according to officials.
Tammarre Lawrence sounded distraught in 911 call
Reportedly, Tammare was audibly upset as she requested an ambulance on a 911 call.
When the police arrived, the wife and mother appeared on her knees sobbing. She refused to tell investigators what happened when they asked her about it. She reportedly told the officers, "I can't say," per a police report.
The day after Tammare's arrest, Magistrate Judge Salvia Smith addressed her in court and stated, "Evidence suggests that you returned and shot Mr Lawrence in the right shoulder with no exit wound. Stanley Lawrence succumbed to his wound in the living room of his home."
Tammare Lawrence was convicted on several charges
Tammare was found guilty of aggravated assault, criminal murder, malice murder, and possession of a firearm while committing a felony.
'Stanley Lawrence was a respected officer'
According to the district attorney's office, Stanley was adored by his family and held in high regard in his neighborhood. His law enforcement acquaintances and coworkers are in disbelief over the veteran officer's murder.
Stanley reportedly began working for the Atlanta Police Department in December 1990. He had been working with the department's Police Athletic League Prior to his death.
According to Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Terrell Griffin, "He was a giant of a man, 6-feet-8-inches, just so gentle, so heartwarming, everybody that I knew loved him, especially the kids."
Former APD Police Chief Erica Shields previously said, "Stanley Lawrence was a respected officer who was beloved by his colleagues and the children of our Police Athletic League, where he worked every day to mentor and positively impact their lives."
