PELICAN RAPIDS, MINNESOTA: In Minnesota, a 27-year-old woman was detained after she allegedly admitted to smothering her 3-year-old daughter to death because the child would not stop sobbing. Suad Mohamed Ali was booked on Tuesday, July 11, and charged with one count of first-degree murder while committing child abuse, according to court records analyzed by Law & Crime. Authorities claim she "smiled the entire time" medics tried to resuscitate her daughter.

Officers from the Pelican Rapids Police Department responded to a complaint regarding an unresponsive 3-year-old at a house in the 300 block of River Road at around 9:38 pm on July 10, according to a probable cause affidavit. First responders said that when they arrived at the scene, they went inside the house and saw a family member knelt over a child who was laying on her back on the living room floor.

The victim was still warm but had no pulse

The victim was still warm but had no pulse when the police checked on her, so an officer started administering CPR. At this time, Ali, who was "lying on the couch", was reportedly smiling at the scene. According to True Crime Daily, the person kneeling over the child alleged that Ali "killed her."

The Otter County Sheriff's Office deputies then showed up to help with the investigation. Ali allegedly admitted to murdering the child during a conversation with a sheriff's detective. The detective said that while emergency personnel were performing CPR on Ali's kid, Ali herself was "lying on the couch."

'She placed her hand over the child's mouth and suffocated her'

The affidavit states, "She stated she placed her hand over the child's mouth and suffocated her after the child was continuously crying." It added, "She stated she had attempted to stab her child earlier in the night with a knife but that she had not harmed her. [A deputy] did find a knife on the arm of a couch in the living room. Defendant [Ali] stated that she purposely tried to kill her daughter."

At around 9:42 pm, medical personnel from Ringdahl Ambulance took over and continued CPR. The victim "vomited and turned her head to the side" as the life-saving surgery was being performed. While still providing CPR, the emergency personnel reported seeing no outward signs of trauma on the kid and enquired of Ali what had transpired, as per reports.
