Who is Shemar Moore's ex-wife? Sanaa Lathan says she chose herself as 'relationships aren’t working'

The 'Criminal Minds' star Shemar Moore and his longtime girlfriend Jesiree Dizon announced that they are expecting their first child together

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 'Criminal Minds' star Shemar Moore and his longtime girlfriend Jesiree Dizon announced on Monday that they are expecting their first child together. As Moore, 51 is set to become a dad for the first time, the star was married once and had several relationships with numerous women.

Moore was married to American actress Sanaa Lathan, who has starred in a number of well-known movies, including 'Now You See Me 2' and 'Alien vs Killer'. Lathan and Moore were together from 1991 to 1996.

Apparently, the main cause of their split is still a mystery because they both did a splendid job of keeping it a secret. Moore is very open about his relationships, although he has never discussed his marriage to Lathan, as per Celebrity FM.

Born on September 19, 1971, in New York City, Sanaa Lathan grew up surrounded by artists. Her mother is actress Eleanor McCoy, and her father is director Stan Lathan. Her on-screen credits goes back to the mid-1990s when she bagged minor roles in 'Moesha' and 'Family Matters'. However, 'Love & Basketball' gave her stardom as she won a BET Award and an Image Award for Best Actress.

Claiming to have chosen herself over relationships, she once told ESSENCE that “I’ma choose me first.” “You see how many relationships aren’t working,” Lathan continued. “The divorce rate is—I don’t know—it has got to be over 50 percent. So I wouldn’t invest in something with less than 50 percent. That’s more than half of failure.”  

“I do believe in love and I want that for myself, but right now I’m focused on loving myself and the truth is when you start loving yourself, you attract a better quality of the situation,” Lathan detailed. “I want somebody who wants me shining; who is not scared of that; who will be there after the days are over and actually cares about what’s going on in my life. And I want to do the same for someone," she told the outlet.

However, a report by AmoMama says that Lathan has never been married. 

On the other hand, Jesiree Dizon, 39, has two children—Kaiden, 16, and Charli, 5—from previous relationships. She and Moore have kept their relationship private, but did reveal the gender of their bundle of joy on Instagram this Monday, January 9. The couple is expecting a baby girl.

Moore broke the news in a poetic way on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “My mother is in heaven right now. It’ll be the three-year anniversary on February 8 and on February 8, I’m gonna make one of her dreams come true because, in real life, Shemar Moore is about to be a daddy,” gushed the S.W.A.T. star.
