Who is Ricardo Rodriguez? Louisville man arrested for allegedly shooting his father and 17-year-old son to death
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY: Ricardo Yunior Rodriguez, a 40-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly fatally shot his father and son at an apartment complex.
Officers of the Louisville Metro Police Department received a report on a shooting at the 600 block of Douglas Park on Monday, October 2 at 3.50 am. After they arrived at the scene, responders discovered two males suffering from gunshot wounds.
What are the charges against Ricardo Rodriguez?
Louisville EMS confirmed that both the victims succumbed to their injuries and pronounced them dead at the scene.
Ricardo was taken into custody on the same day on two counts of murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of a defaced firearm, and a tampering with physical evidence, reports True Crime Daily. He is currently being held at the Metro Corrections.
Who were the fatal shooting victims?
According to WLKY-TV, law enforcement authorities confirmed the two victims who are Rodriguez's father and son are identified as 55-year-old Miguel Ricardo and 17-year-old Giovanni Rodriguez.
Officers of Louisville Metro Police found the suspect near the doorway of the apartment where the tragic incident took place.
Rodriguez later reportedly confessed to authorities he shot his father and son, according to WLKY.
Ricardo Rodriguez was previously arrested for murder
In 2013, Rodriguez was taken into custody for stabbing a 41-year-old man to death.
Initially, Rodriguez faced murder charges but it was later changed to manslaughter charges.
He was sentenced to six-and-a-half years behind bars and was released from prison in September 2017.
Ricardo Rodriguez's neighbor said his behavior was always suspicious
Speaking to WHAS11, a neighbor whose identity has not been disclosed said that Rodriguez's behavior was always suspicious.
She added that the suspect's family had just moved to their neighborhood more than a month ago.
The neighbor further said that she is happy Rodriguez was caught and she hopes he spends several years in prison.
State Representative Jared Bauman are now drafting a proposal for legislation of keeping repeat offenders off the state.
"Kentuckians do not want violent criminals in their neighborhoods they don't want them in their communities and so we need to pass good policy that protects the citizens of the commonwealth from violent experienced criminals," said Bauman.
"This is an absolute tragic incident and my heart goes out to the family and friends that are impacted," said Bauman as he noted, "It's lasered focused on violent crime and very experienced criminals."
