Who is 'Prison Karen'? Ghislaine Maxwell gets new moniker after snitching on transgender bunkmate
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA: Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite who was convicted of sex trafficking minor girls for her ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein, has been making hundreds of petty complaints while serving her 20-year sentence at FCI Tallahassee, a low-security Florida lockup.
She has also been clashing with her bunkmates over trivial matters such as underwear, clothes hangers, and loud sex. One of her former cellmates was a heavily-tattooed transgender inmate nicknamed 'Batman', who began transitioning from female to male while staying locked up for a firearm offense.
Who is 'Prison Karen'?
Maxwell reportedly snitched on Batman for having raucous sex sessions with a prison girlfriend in the bunk above her. "The cubes don't have doors like regular cells so Batman's girl would just creep in and climb up to the top bunk," an insider told the Daily Mail. "Max would hear every grunt and moan as she was trying to sleep just a few feet below. The beds aren't bolted down and they can rock from side to side and make a lot of noise." Maxwell also had an issue with Batman hanging boxers and socks over the metal rungs of the bed to dry. "Inmates aren't allowed to have sex so she went and reported Batman to the unit's case manager," the source said.
Batman was soon moved to a different cube. But Maxwell didn't get along with her replacement either, who complained about Maxwell's lack of hygiene and smelly sneakers. The new bunkie allegedly threatened to beat Maxwell with a padlock after an argument over a clothes hanger. Maxwell complained again, and the bunkie was also removed. "Max seems to think she will eventually get a cube all to herself if she keeps stirring up trouble," the insider said. The publication reported that Maxwell has launched 400 plus petty complaints while being jailed which has earned her the moniker 'prison Karen.'
Maxwell has also complained about the poor quality of vegan food options, claimed she was being mistreated, and asked for immediate access to black hair dye, the publication reported. She even managed to get cozy hypoallergenic bedding after telling staff that the regular prison pillows were causing her allergies.
The 'Prison Karen' has been complaining since her arrest in July 2020
The 'Prison Karen' has been complaining since her arrest in July 2020 when she was held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, where her lawyers said the prison violated her rights by shining a flashlight in her cell every 14 minutes, searching her invasively and filming her constantly. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison in June 2022 and moved to FCI Tallahassee, where she kept filing grievances. She also gave a TV interview to UK broadcaster Jeremy Kyle, saying without evidence that the photo of Prince Andrew with Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre was a fake. For this, she was sent into solitary confinement for 48 hours as per the report.
She also snitched on two Cuban inmates who tried to extort her for $360
She also snitched on two Cuban inmates in March who tried to extort her for $360 worth of commissary items, after they learned she had an "arrangement" with a kitchen worker who gave her extra vegan food. The two inmates were also isolated for 47 days and then moved away from Maxwell. Maxwell, who is appealing her convictions, has a release date set for July 2037 when she will be 75. Federal prosecutors argued this week that her conviction should stand and denied that she was a proxy for Epstein, who killed himself in jail in 2019. "The jury's verdict reflects overwhelming evidence of Maxwell's guilt," they wrote in a court filing.
