Mentor Clay Lee has always had Max Pham's back
Max had a creative block during a round where he had to show a narrative through dance. However, he quickly contacted one of his old and close friends to get through this dark time. Max shared during the confessional clip, "I took the last two days to have some conversations with friends, and I was reminded to enjoy it." He added, "We're so close. Clay Lee is a mentor of mine. The guy that gave me my first teaching job at the local community center in Boise." Max recalled, "We would come here every Friday and danced until this place closed at 11:00" Max further shared, "So I think, without Clay supporting my dance career. I think that things would probably look a lot different than they do right now."
What was Max Pham's first obstacle?
Max hits his first obstacle during the semi-final round. He has to tell a narrative through his dance performance. Max shared that he was roleplaying a secret agent for the performance. He further explained in his narrative, "I'm being chased, and what happens? Don't know about y'all, but definitely ran into a wall." While rehearsing with his dance crew, Max looks frustrated and shares that he is exhausted. Max added, "I can feel it in my body. I think I've hit my first obstacle. How's that chorus start? Creatively, you're trying to lead 25 people." However, Max was fueled up after talking to his mentor and friend Clay who gave him the pep talk he needed. Soon after meeting with Clay, Max said, "You can fail at something, but you won't lose unless you quit. I think I just have to keep doing my thing." But Max's mentor couldn't save him from elimination and the choreographer failed to reach the finale.
