The jurors also found that there were aggravating circumstances for a handgun enhancement for the fatal shooting which could add an additional 20 years to his overall sentence.

Who was Elizabeth Lewis?

Elizabeth Lewis was the daughter of Tony Bennett, a former State Superintendent of Public Instruction in Indiana and former Commissioner of Education in Florida.

Tony Bennett was reportedly in tears following the verdict. As per WLKY, he said, “After 18 months of absolute hell, today is the first day of justice for our beautiful daughter, their mom, our two grandchildren and Emiry who endured this tragedy."

“No children, no child, should ever have their mom stripped away from them in the manner Lizzie was stripped away (from her kids.) And even more, no child should have that happen before their eyes," Bennett added in another report.

Elizabeth Lewis died after a bullet went through just below her right eye and out the back of her head. She also had three other bullet wounds and several grazes from the gunshots, an autopsy revealed.

After killing his wife, Lewis also fired a bullet at the victim’s daughter which caused him to be charged with one count of attempted murder.

Evidence showed Lewis fired 12 bullets inside and outside the home that night. His wife was hit four times.

"When somebody does something to injure you four different times, that's not an accident," said Clark County Prosecutor Jeremy Mull.

"In her dying moments, there was no comfort provided. The guy that did that to her left and tried to kill her," Mull said.

Elizabeth Bennett’s daughter had called 911 after her mother was killed

Police, as per the report, witnessed her daughter was inconsolable and covered in her mother’s blood.

A 911 call that Elizabeth Bennett’s daughter placed after witnessing her mother being gunned down by her Lewis was also played during the trial.

“My stepdad just killed my mom,” the child could be heard.

Lewis is scheduled to appear for his sentencing hearing on November 1. The defence attorney, as reported, claimed that Lewis had a gun and he was going to kill himself after his wife told him she wanted a divorce.

The claims were rebutted by Prosecutor Jeremy Mull suggesting it was "an insult to this family."
