BURNS, TENNESSEE: Landon Shaun Mathis, the mayor of Burns, Tennessee, was arrested on Sunday, September 24, after purportedly assaulting his girlfriend's son during a dispute over payment for yard work.

Burns Mayor Landon Shaun Mathis allegedly assaulted victim after disagreement over payment

Upon responding to a domestic disturbance call at 1411 Johnson St in Burns on Sunday, September 24, deputies spoke to the victim involved, who reported that the altercation arose from a disagreement about the compensation he claimed he was owed for cutting weeds.

The victim, identified as KP in the affidavit, stated that Landon Shaun Mathis had committed to paying him $40 for the task. However, the mayor reneged on the promise and refused to pay him once the job was completed.

As per the affidavit, the accuser recounted that he was talking to his mother in the living room regarding the owed payment when Mathis allegedly stood up from the kitchen table and advanced toward him.

Landon Shaun Mathis left marks on the boy's neck

Landon Shaun Mathis purportedly seized him by his shirt collar, forcibly pushing him onto the couch. The altercation escalated as the mayor continued to exert pressure on the boy, resulting in visible marks on his neck.

Following the altercation, the boy's mother intervened, urging them to stop and directing her son to go to his room, as per the details in the arrest affidavit.

The victim complied and started to walk away when Mathis deliberately stepped on his feet, provoking him to push the mayor.

In response, Mathis apparently grabbed the victim and forcefully body-slammed him. He utilized what was described as "some kind of neck hold," twisted the boy's nose, and applied pressure, resulting in pain and discomfort, according to the document.

The mayor was then taken into custody and booked at the Dickson County Jail.
