SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Former San Francisco International Airport employee Kevin Prasad, 37, has been convicted of killing his co-worker's boyfriend after she rebuffed his romantic advances.

The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office stated that Prasad was found guilty of first-degree murder, lying in wait, and firing into an occupied vehicle in the April 2018 killing of 31-year-old Mark Mangaccat.

Why did Kevin Prasad kill Mark Mangaccat?

While working at the airport, Prasad got attracted to a co-worker and spent months trying to woo her unsuccessfully. The co-worker was in a relationship with Mangaccat, with whom she shared a child.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said that Prasad and Mangaccat “had never had a conflict, never had any fight, battles or anything like that. He just happened to be the boyfriend of the woman he wanted in his life.”

Mangaccat and the co-worker had planned to move to Las Vegas with their daughter. Prasad allegedly decided upon his violent course of action in a desperate attempt to keep her from moving.

How did Kevin Prasad kill Mark Mangaccat?

Mangaccat went to the airport to pick up the co-worker after she had finished her last shift on April 25, 2018. Prasad and his accomplice Donavan Rivera followed the couple to their home that day, as per the police report.

Authorities allege that Prasad walked up to the vehicle and fired five to six shots while Mangaccat was backing his car into the garage. His girlfriend was in the passenger seat and remained uninjured.

The co-worker had no idea about the assailant's identity at first. However, she told the homicide detectives about Prasad, who she thought had an innocent crush on her at the time.

Prasad and his getaway driver Rivera were arrested and charged the following day. Rivera had pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder but faces related criminal charges.

Co-worker in shock after boyfriend's death

The co-worker in question told People that she never suspected Prasad, who had asked her out a few times without success, would resort to murder.

“It was just a crush,” she said. “He’d say things like, ‘Don’t you want to go out with me?’ Mark knew about it, but neither one of us paid too much attention to it.”

Still in shock from the gruesome slaying, she added, “I wish it could be a bad dream. But it’s not. I am empty. I only think of Mark. He should be here. It is a killing for nothing. There was no reason.”
