Who is Karlie Guse? Family of 16-year-old girl who mysteriously disappeared believes she’s still alive
CHALFANT, CALIFORNIA: Karlie Guse's disappearance remains a haunting mystery for investigators since she left her home in California on October 13, 2018. A night before she was reported missing, the 16-year-old girl had been out partying with her friends, and upon arriving home, she appeared disoriented.
Her behavior led her father Zac Guse to suspect that the marijuana she admitted smoking at the party may have been laced with another substance. Melissa Guse, the teenager's stepmother wanted to show her how the drugs had impacted her and she made an audio recording of the girl to play for her when she began acting normally again, according to People.
Who is Karlie Guse?
The teenager left her family home in Mono County the next day after her night out partying and never returned. There has been no trace of Karlie since she was last seen by witnesses walking south approximately 100 yards south of Sierra View Road and 30 yards east of Highway 6.
The search for the 16-year-old who loved watching scary movies and spending time with her brothers intensifies. Her disappearance will be discussed on tonight's episode of People Magazine Investigates, titled "The Strange Disappearance of Karlie Guse," airing on Investigation Discovery and streaming on Max at 9/8c.
Investigators now pursue a tip from a recovering drug user
In a clip from the episode, the teenager's mother Melissa recalls making a Facebook Live video 12 hours after he daughter disappeared as she hoped that someone out there was aware of her location. "I just wanted to get the word out and make it spread like wildfire. You know, social media, everybody’s on it," Melissa said. "That night, we didn’t sleep at all. We just stayed up, hoping she’d be home the next day," she added in the clip.
An age-progression picture of what Karlie would appear to look like at present was released by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children on her 20th birthday on May 13, 2022. Karlie is described as a white female with blonde/brown hair and blue eyes and was five-foot-seven inches tall and weighed 110 lbs at the time of her disappearance.
Her family continues to hold onto hope for her safe return. Authorities recently received a promising tip from a recovering drug user, who claimed to have seen Karlie in 2021 at a party. "Every day, we're still looking," said the teenager's father Zac Guse.
