RICHMOND, VIRGINIA: In a tragic incident, a 19-year-old from Woodbridge, Virginia, is now facing a slew of charges, including murder. He allegedly killed his father and injured his mother while under the influence of an "unknown narcotic."
Local authorities have provided unsettling information about this case.
Juan Pina-Ortiz, the 19-year-old man at the center of this tragic case, has been charged with murder, assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, and domestic assault and battery in connection with the events of October 16.
Why did Juan Pina-Ortiz kill his father?
According to police, the fatal family altercation began with an argument that resulted in the untimely death of 51-year-old Juan Pina-Recendiz, Juan's father.
PWCPD Lieutenant Jonathan Perok stated that the cause of death was attributed to "blunt force trauma sustained during the altercation with his son."
The chaotic scene unfolded when law enforcement responded to a call regarding a domestic dispute just before 1.30 am at a residence on Shannon Court in Woodbridge.
The caller reported that Pina-Ortiz was not only damaging property inside the home but was possibly under the influence of an "unknown narcotic."
Upon arriving at the residence, officers encountered a distressing scene: the suspect was unclothed and actively assaulting another individual, later identified as his father.
It was also revealed that Pina-Ortiz allegedly exhibited erratic behavior, potentially high on drugs.
Police dog aids in capturing agitated teen murderer
Despite police commands, the teenager continued to assault his father, occasionally retreating into the residence.
He would reemerge in an agitated state, which eventually led to an altercation with law enforcement. During this confrontation, the suspect grabbed the vest of a K-9 officer, resulting in the deployment of the team's K-9 unit.
The police dog bit Pina-Ortiz, and he was subsequently apprehended. Although the teen sustained minor injuries during the arrest, he received medical treatment at a local hospital before being taken into police custody. Fortunately, the K-9 handler was unharmed.
As of the time of this report, the specific narcotic Pina-Ortiz allegedly consumed remains unconfirmed. The motive behind the tragic violence also remains unclear.
The suspect was arraigned at the Prince William General District Court on Tuesday and is currently being held without bond, as indicated by online court records.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 12 and is only the first step on the long road to justice in this heart-wrenching case.
