Who is Heather Nunez?

The 26-year-old Heather Nunez is a Dominican-American born and raised in New York. She grew up traveling between the US and the Dominican Republic and would visit her family every year. When she was nine, her father was deported back, and she was forced to move to Sugar Hill to live with her grandmother. There she shared a small two-bedroom apartment with her grandmother, her single mother, and a sister as the family struggled to make ends meet.

Heather was subjected to domestic violence from a young age, which continued to haunt her even outside her home. At age 15, Heather found herself in an abusive relationship, which she endured for over three years. Throughout the relationship, Heather tried desperately to regain her independence but to no avail. After many failed attempts to get herself to safety, the Miss New York 2022 finally approached law enforcement. With their intervention, Heather could finally end her years of torment, get out of the grasp of her abuser and move ahead in her life.

Heather chose to study Criminal Justice in order to help similar victims of domestic violence. She studied at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and obtained a Bachelor of Science honors degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Cyber Crime. Heather has vowed to become a voice for women who are afraid to speak up after she learned that many other friends and family had gone through similar trauma. The beauty queen also gained training in CPR and karate and aims to join the FBI in the future. She registered to compete for Miss New York USA expecting it would be a platform to share her story. Catch Heather in the finale of Miss USA 2022, set to air on the upcoming Monday.

Miss USA 2022 is all set to premiere on Monday, October 3, 2022, at 8 pm ET and 5 pm PT on Hulu Live TV.
