OLD CITY, JERUSALEM: An American-Israeli soldier was brutally stabbed to death by a 16-year-old Palestinian resident while on patrol duty in Jerusalem.

Sergeant Elisheva Rose Ida Lubin, was involved in the defence of the kibbutz against Hamas’ October 7 attack. Although she survived the attack, Lubin was tragically killed on Monday, November 6.

According to The Mirror, the 20-year-old from Georgia was in the Old City with two others when the attacker struck. She was apparently in critical condition before she died from her injuries.

Another officer also suffered minor injuries and a third colleague managed to fight off the attacker.

Why did the teenager attack Elisheva Lubin?

Authorities in Israel said the attacker was a 16-year-old Palestinian resident from Sa’ir, East Jerusalem. The Israel Defence Forces tracked down the teenage militant the next day during a raid at a refugee camp, which triggered clashes between soldiers and local Palestinians.

What did the IDF say?

"Mapping was conducted in preparation for the demolition of the house of the terrorist who carried out the stabbing attack yesterday in Jerusalem. During the activity, suspects threw stones and threw Molotov cocktails at the forces who responded by shooting, injuries were detected", the IDF said on X.

The teenage attacker was shot dead

Israeli media said the teenage attacker was said to have been shot dead by other members of Border Police. The IDF reportedly arrested 28 wanted persons, including 11 associated with Hamas, and destroyed a warehouse of weapons “containing gas cylinders and other materials intended for the preparation of explosives" throughout the night.

According to the Atlanta Jewish Times, Lubin lived in Dunwoody, a suburb of Atlanta. She went to Israel from the US in August 2021 and after emigrating in March 2022 and joined the Israel border police where she carried out Army duties. She was living in Israel without her family giving her the designation of a 'lone soldier.'

Lubin was based in Kibbutz Sa’ad, southern Israel which was one of the places targeted in a surprise Hamas attack last month. An apparent 'last video' showed her waving and smiling and telling her family she loved them.

Georgia government  released a statement after Elisheva Lubin's death

Brian Kemp of the Georgia Government wrote on X, "Marty, the girls, and I are heartbroken by the tragic news of Rose Lubin’s death. Her courage and commitment to fighting evil is an inspiration to us all, and we will continue to keep her family and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
