STANFORD, FLORIDA: A Florida man has been charged with fatally shooting his pregnant teenage girlfriend and her unborn child after she declined to undergo an abortion, authorities announced on Tuesday, August 29.
Donovan Faison, aged 21, was taken into custody on Tuesday, August 29 for the double killing of his girlfriend Kaylin Fiengo, aged 18, and her unborn baby, nearly 10 months after the young mother was discovered shot to death in her car at Sanford's Coastline Park, according to the Sanford police.
How did Kaylin Fiengo die?
On the evening of November 11, Fiengo had driven to Coastline Park to meet up with Faison, as per the police account. That same night, after 11 pm, she was found deceased with a gunshot wound while seated in the driver's seat of her parked vehicle.
A patrolling Sanford police officer noticed the car parked in reverse and still running. Upon looking inside, the officer found Fiengo's body in the driver's seat, the police reported.
The couple had been engaged in frequent disputes during the preceding weeks, primarily concerning the teenager's pregnancy, according to the New York Post
Why did Donovan Faison kill his girlfriend?
Faison allegedly wanted Fiengo to terminate her pregnancy, but she declined. Investigators believe her refusal was the likely motive behind her murder, as stated in a press release by the Sanford police.
At the time of her murder, Fiengo was in the final stages of her first trimester. It wasn't mentioned whether Faison was the father of the unborn child.
Faison was apprehended by Sanford police on Tuesday, August 29, and has been charged with two counts of felony homicide – one for Fiengo and one for her unborn child.
What did Sanford Police say?
Sanford Police Chief Cecil Smith stated, "Today’s events come after a long, almost ten months, of an exhaustive investigation... Our investigators have made sure every possible shred of evidence was processed and analyzed in order to bring Kaylin’s killer to justice."
Fiengo, who also had a 1-year-old son named Ace, was remembered by her parents as a dedicated mother. "Though Kaylin faced [many] challenges that set her apart from her peers in many ways, she made friends everywhere she went," read her obituary. "Kaylin loved spending time with her son, siblings, and friends. Kaylin really was a fun-loving child and had an old soul.”
Smith expressed hope that Faison's arrest would provide some solace to Fiengo's grieving family. "This beautiful, young woman and mother, was taken from this world far too soon, and in a horrific way... We hope that today’s arrest brings the slightest amount of peace for Kaylin’s family and the young son she left behind. It doesn’t bring her back, but at least she will have the justice she deserves."
