CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: A Chicago man who allegedly killed his ex girlfriend outside her house was charged with attempted murder after he shot a state trooper this week in Springfield.

Cristobal Santana is accused of allegedly shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend, 37-year-old special needs teacher Adrianna Lopez, outside her Garfield Ridge home in Chicago.

In a tense video, Santana opened fire on an Illinois State Trooper during a traffic stop. Officer Dakotah “Kody” Chapman-Green then bravely pursued the man and struck him with his cruiser, per Daily Mail.

The recently made public footage captures the moment that 37-year-old Santana exits his vehicle on October 24 at approximately 11 pm to confront Springfield police officer Dakotah "Kody" Chapman-Green on Toronto Road.

Upon witnessing Santana brandishing a firearm, Chapman-Green instantly retreats from the car and exits the frame just as the gunman is about to aim his weapon at the police officer.

As the cop tries to escape the barrage of gunshots, Santana shoots him multiple times. He then emerges from behind the side of his car and chases Chapman-Green on foot.

Captivating CCTV footage captured by a nearby camera shows Chapman-Green fleeing for his life during a frantic episode while Santana keeps firing out volleys of shots.

The New York Post reported that the cop later pursued Santana to a parking lot where he beat him with the gun despite being struck in the legs several times.

Eventually, the injured Chapman-Green is seen staggering back into the screen as the suspect gets back into his car and speeds off.

Two Good Samaritans raced to Chapman-Green's aid as he was struggling to stand back up after Santana left the scene. The courageous officer dashed back into his vehicle and tracked down the gunman himself despite suffering a brain bleed and skull fractures.

The officer hit Santana at a high speed and sent him flying through the air and leaving him sprawled out across the road.

Following his transport to a local hospital, the cop is healing from his wounds.

Shortly after three hours, at around 1:58 am on October 24, Santana was finally taken into custody.

Santana was also taken to the hospital after being hit by the police cruiser. Authorities have stated that he is "in custody and receiving appropriate medical care."

Five criminal allegations have been brought against Santana, which include two counts of attempted murder, aggravated violence to a police officer, and aggravated unauthorized use of a firearm.

Cristobal Santana is accused of killing girlfriend Adrianna Lopez

Santana shot his pre-K teacher girlfriend Lopez ten times in the chest outside her Chicago home, two days before his ill-fated vehicle chase.

Chicago Public Schools teacher Lopez was discovered shot to death outside her Garfield Ridge house on Sunday night, October 22.

According to the family of Lopez, Santana had a history of physical abuse.

The Chicago Tribune reported that Lopez's family has come forward to demand action in response to her death and that they have video evidence of someone shooting and killing Lopez.

Lopez was shot by a "known man" in a dark SUV, as per Chicago police, who are currently conducting investigations into the murder.

Although Santana has not been formally identified by authorities as a suspect in the murder, state police stated that they intended to speak with him about Lopez's killing.

According to Lopez's family, Santana "was there waiting for her" when she and a male friend arrived back at her house in the 5400 block of South Narragansett Avenue on October 22 night around 9:30 pm.

Lopez was hit by gunfire from an SUV more than ten times, as per the authorities. Following an emergency visit to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the Cook County medical examiner's office reported that she died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Martiza Torres, Lopez's cousin, informed the Tribune that because of Santana's supposed violent past, the teacher had recently requested a protective order against him.
