NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Antonio Robles-Sanchez, a wanted man who was let go by a New York law enforcement officer, allegedly fatally struck a pedestrian with a vehicle while under the influence of drugs.

The 42-year-old man was involved in a minor fender bender, and no injuries were reported in the incident in Scarsdale on August 26, reported Fox News

Just 45 minutes after the incident, Sanchez allegedly struck 65-year-old Stephanie Kavourias with his Dodge pickup truck in a neighboring town.

Who was Stephanie Kavourias?

Stephanie Kavourias, who previously served as the director of the Hartsdale Public Parking District, was the pedestrian who was killed by Sanchez.

"In the midst of storms, floods, electrical outages during her tenure, one would see Stephanie working alongside her colleagues in the garages and lots," read the parking district group's website.

Prior to her tenure at the district, she worked for many years at the Town of Greenburgh, lastly as Zoning Secretary.

"She was also a former member of the Planning Board for the Town. Stephanie, or Steffie, as many called her, was a true pioneer for women holding leadership positions in government," the group wrote.

What led to the death of Stephanie Kavourias?

Ainsley Brown, identified as the Scarsdale officer, assisted the suspect and the other individual involved in the minor accident to move their vehicles and also to exchange their insurance information.

However, it remains unclear how much time the suspect spent interacting with Brown who let him go.

Just 45 minutes after the incident, Sanchez allegedly struck the 65-year-old woman with his Dodge pickup truck in the neighboring town of Greenburgh.

Kavourias was taken to a hospital by the emergency response team who performed CPR on her. However, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The suspect reportedly fled the accident that led to the death of Kavourias but police found his truck's license plate that came off as he drove away.

After the suspect was caught, police found loose pills inside his vehicle. Later, Sanchez allegedly told officers that he had taken heroin and cocaine.

He was then taken into custody following the fatal accident. Sanchez faces felony charges, including leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death and vehicular manslaughter.

Authorities also found that in connection to an arrest for the possession of more than 100 oxycodone pills in 2018, he was listed as wanted in Pennsylvania.

An arrest warrant was issued when Sanchez failed to appear in court for his trial. He is currently booked into the Westchester County prison and is set to appear in court on September 19.
